I had these mounted last night.

I did have to do the fender liner mod to get the 275s fit. It took 20 minutes in my freezing cold garage, so not very difficult. Video here:

My initial assessment after driving them home last night and then to the city this morning is they feel heavy. The ride itself didn’t change much (no jarring or stiffness), but I can really feel them when I brake and turn the wheel... especially when changing lanes on the highway. They also wander a little bit on the highway. I don’t remember my E rated BFGs on my TJ feeling this noticeably heavy, but it was a solid axel and I did have a beefed up steering stabilizer, so maybe that’s why. The suspension on my TJ was also much stiffer, so I’m guessing stiffer suspension on the GX will help as well.

It’s not unbearable as it is, but something I’ll have to get used to. No more 85mpg during rush hour for me.

Thanks for the update. Its a big tire for the IFS. It makes the suspension, brakes and all the components work a little harder. How did the MPG change? Let's see some pics when you get a chance.

275/70r17 S/T Maxx on TRD Pro wheels (+4mm offset vs +25mm offset factory). Factory suspension. Factory UCAs. No lift. Factory running boards removed (SSO sliders installed). Front wheel well liners moved forward (see below). No rubbing. At least 2” between the tire and the UCA. About .5” clearance on the cab mount when the wheel turns and the same amount on the front wheel well liner.

Looks sweet. Love those wheels. Looks nice with the black GX. Thanks for the info on the set up.

@joabmc I bumped up the pressure and put a few hundred miles on them and they settled down considerably. The wandering is gone. They’re still heavy haha but I got used to it q

The GX is the first SUV/truck I’ve had that handled as good as it does (and I don’t even have KDSS), so I think I got used to pushing it pretty hard. Now I’m back to driving it like a truck.

I plan to do a ~2” lift at some point. That’ll probably stiffin it back up.

@xlx I’ll keep an eye on the mileage. It’s not a great time of year to get a good read because the winter blend gas is out and I’m getting miserable mileage no matter what

@Arailt good to hear! I tried to run 30-32 PSI with those tires and remember specifically the "heavy" feel. You could bump them up to 40 and give a go as well. I once had a shop put 50 in them once and noticed immediately. Like driving on bricks! I've been watching MPGs on long trips and have fairly consistently gotten between 16.5-17 MPG. And that's cruising 75-80 MPH for most of the trip. Would probably get better if I could keep my foot out of the skinny pedal.

Good to know. I might try 40 when we head to Deep Creek for the holidays.

Would probably get better if I could keep my foot out of the skinny pedal.
Amen haha. That 4.7 though. It’s hard to stay off the skinny pedal!

Arailt - How bad was the rubbing before you modded the fenders?

My MK6's finally arrived in Tokyo 4 months late but just in time before we see any snow. Went with 17x9 ±0 so about an inch wider on either side than your TRD's (4mm is negligible!) I have 275/70/17 BFG KO II going on them. I was pretty sure that fender liner trimming would be needed but the only local shop that I trust and has a machine big enough to mount/balance the tires...let's just say I'm probably going to have to drive home and mod the fenders after. (or before if it's bad enough)

Forgot to mention why I ask, bone stock suspension...no clue if the Prado fender liners and such will be much different than the GX. (My GX front, hood arrived over the break but still awaiting the running boards and MPD fenders)

I did my fender mod before I had the wheels/tires put on. There's a little more than .5" of clearance with the fenders modded. I can't say for sure, but the tires probably would have rubbed when turning without it. I'm not sure how the Prado is, but the mod was so simple on the GX that nobody would ever know it was done, so it can't hurt to do it before you get them mounted.

FWIW, After putting several hundred miles on the new tires, I'm finding that they DO rub in certain circumstances when turning - generally when I'm turning onto or from a grade to a flat surface.

Thanks for the reply!

Sounds like a good idea to mod ahead of time and be prepared to make further adjustments.

The MK6 didn't come with valves and 11.5mm aren't exactly common in Japan so I'm dealing with that headache now.

There we go- had the liners unbolted and pushed forward. Cut the plastic corner where it wasn’t mounted anymore...did that the day before mounting.

The guys at America’s Tire were saying that it probably wouldn’t fit and I just told them to try and that I’m due for a lift “right after” lol. When I went to pick it up guys were warning me like “oh it’s super risky and be careful when turning it’s rubbing A LOT”

only place that was rubbing was actually the rear part of the wheel well but turns out the pop pin wasn’t even attached to the body.

It hasn’t been rubbing on road or turning at least

Something I'm curious about when determining age/wear based sag - I know we can measure center of hub to fender, but out of curiosity, what does the stock CV angle look like?

Can someone give me an update on the truck feel after the 275/70r17? I was considering the coopers. They only have them with E rating. Looks like it will add about 18 lbs. per corner. Wondering how sluggish it will feel? Does it hunt for gears when driving? How bad did it impact gas mileage (I know it isn't good ever, but it is more a question around how much harder the engine is working).

Really wish I could just drive one with 275 or even 285 for a few miles. Just so much money on tires to just go try without knowing... ha ha.
