Enough... please take the petty bickering elsewhere. Wancho's likely getting nothing from this entire discussion, other than the fact than John likes his 100 and will defend it's attributes to the death and also that there is an abundance of users on Mud (this club not excluded apparently) that would attempt to push that point to it's limits.

Wancho,

My suggestion is to evaluate your true needs and wants and do ALOT of reading on this board, then take any opportunity you can to drive or ride with owners of multiple vehicles of differnt build types to decide. Regardless of your final decision, you're buying a Toyota, you'll get dependability and a long lasting rig. It's really a matter of how much on road comfort you prefer as opposed to the "potential" sacrifice of off road capability.

I only defend my 100 so strongly because it has proved itself worthy of everthing non-owners criticize it of.

John,
I do not hold you at fault for that. Truth be known I find it commendable that you have the fortitude to put up with all the s*** that gets talked to you on this site. Not that I don't disagree with you on some issues, but the way we go about disagreeing by dismissing all you say as bunk. It wears on me, as the President of this club that we simply can't accept your opinion as that... one mans opinion.

Well said BMan. Thanks!

If it was presented as one man's opinion, that wouldn't be a problem. Instead, John's 'opinion' is presented as incontrovertible fact, and anyone listening to him would believe that the 100 series is the only truck to buy, if you buy anything else you and your family's lives are in immediate danger, nothing ever breaks or needs maintenance on a 100, and baby Jesus will start crying if you even contemplate buying a lesser vehicle. What's worse, though, is that he WILL NOT shut up about it until everyone involved in the conversation gives up on it. Extolling the virtues of the 100 is great, pointing out the advantages (we all know there're no disadvantages) can be helpful to someone interested in buying a Landcruiser, but there's no need to beat the horse to a pulp. (I almost laughed myself to tears when at one point in this thread he offered me 'the last word'. As if.)
Apparently it's not permitted to have an opinion that is contrary to Shotts', and God forbid I actually ever decide to seriously argue with him. I refrain because I don't believe it's polite to do so on a forum, but IMHO that restraint should apply to both sides.

I like John as a wheeler, and enjoy talking to him in person. I dislike John the rabid 100 defender, and pretend that they are different people.

So BMan, tell me what to do. When John starts ragging on anything that's not a 100, should I just ignore him and keep quiet? Is that fair to the original poster?

For Chrissakes, he quoted your admonishment and used it to get in one more comment about how wonderful the 100 is. He tossed in a , and then you complimented him on his 'fortitude'. Gag me with a torsion bar.

I'll not respond to your exaggerations. :)

I can tell you this.....when folks ask for advice the first thing I ask before giving my advice is primary vehicle usage. Unless the person's vehicle usage is extreme off-roading and/or lowest possible cost, the 100 will USUALLY emerge as my recommendation.

Next: The reason I beat the dead horse is in order to COMPENSATE for all the crap advice the non-100 owners give. Advice-givers should keep their advice down to things they have experience with. When 80-owners (who are non-100 onwers) just discredit the 100, make exaggerations (not pointing at you) about IFS and the like, they MISLEAD the person in which the information is meant. Notice my first post in this thread. It was in response to to his application and the question about a 100 was asked. It's the non-100 wack jobs that go ape**** when they hear a 100 being recommended over an 80.

In this thread, a 100-series is a very credible solution to this buyer. Had this guy a said I want to build a trail rig and I plan on using it....my response would have been different for sure (like it has been many times).

So, you don't want ME beating a horse? Then stop beating on the 100-series when you have NO EXPERIENCE in the driver's seat, especailly if you are one of the non-100 folks who pass on climbing the obstacles the 100 has that most 40, 60, and 80 drivers pass on. That simple! :flipoff2:

Oh, and for the record........NOTE: my LX450 is a superior hard-core wheeler compared to my UZJ100. Does that make you feel any better? :D

John, you just don't get it. I'm discussing your propensity for arguing about the superiority of the 100 series and you're... arguing some more about the superiority of the 100 series.

I quit.

Get over the 80 series. FOR MOST people who ask about which vehicle they should buy, the 100 will be the best answer. For the person wanting a HARD CORE TRAIL RIG, the 80 is the best answer. So yes.....in 2007 the 100 has proved itself so capable that it'll serve the neds of 90% of the poeple considering both trucks.

So yes.....anybody with lots of trail and non-trail experience in both series is going to point out these facts for the beneift of the person considering the buy. Get used to it. It's not 1999. There's almost NO reason to suggest an 80 over a 100. The few applications are:

*Extreme trail duty...pushing the envelope diffuculty-wise
*Like the looks better
*Costs less
*More mods for extreme use

THAT'S IT. Nothing more for the 80.

Now think of all the reasons to buy/recommend a 100-series. It's not rocket science. One has to be objective FIRST before giving advice.

I made no such statement nor do I belive this to be a good practice to enter into these disputes over and over again, from either side.

So BMan, tell me what to do. When John starts ragging on anything that's not a 100, should I just ignore him and keep quiet? Is that fair to the original poster?
Yes. Ignore him and state the facts that you know to be true about your experiences. Simply because you read something on the internet three times does not make it gospel. If a person makes a decision to buy a 100 series based solely on what one man says, that's their issue, not yours.

For Chrissakes, he quoted your admonishment and used it to get in one more comment about how wonderful the 100 is. He tossed in a , and then you complimented him on his 'fortitude'. Gag me with a torsion bar.
My compliment was pending my return to the computer. Torsion bar or not, John's penchant for taking s*** is unbelievable to me. I personally would have given up on this group long ago if it were I constantly defending my rig. There's a reason I don't hang out on Rover boards.

All of that said, another 5 posts worth of s*** BACK AND FORTH has done nothing but add to your post counts and has done absolutely NOTHING to help Wancho make his decision.

If you two want to pull each others pigtails and scratch each others eyes out fine. Do it on the 80 or 100 boards, NOT HERE.

You may want to but for some reason I doubt Mamma will let that happen.

Rumor has it that negotiations are under way that could reduce momma’s "care" on this issue.:D
