That's for sure I buy a RAM but Landcruiser here is $65000 and RAM is $140000
 
If Ford, Chev and Dodge released the Full size pick-ups in Australia similar price to what they are in the USA the Landcruiser market would be greatly reduced.

Ford ,Chev and even Jeep with their special Australian model tried that before
The Ford F100/150 was the best but it still had twice the downtime of the Landcruiser 7* series.
If people want something bigger than a landcruiser ,they buy small Japanese 4x4 trucks like Isuzu ,Hino and Mits Canter.

Their too big. Have you seen them up against a Landcruiser? Gone's the day where a contractor needs something that big to haul supplies around. Its cheaper and easier to get it delivered than to waste an hour at Bunnings and I can't think of any other advantage to them.
We're all building smaller houses and garages on smaller lots, where we gunna store them?

Not worth bring them in and converting them, for an Idea of the price they should be, compare the price of a new mustang here and in the US and see what an F150 is worth in America.

The ol 351 was ok and had some issues, they now have strong Diesel engines auto boxes and very nice interior. My uncle has one and keeps it serviced had no issues.

The U.S government is in the process of levying a fine so massive on VW due to their diesel engines, most major corporations couldn't remain solvent. A major class action suit is in the works against Cummins for their light truck diesel due to emissions. Don't see Toyota suddenly reversing course and bringing a diesel into this mess.
 
The 7# series comes with the petrol 4.0 V6 as well, no reason they couldn't release the GRJ, their V8 diesel dosen't really compare against American V8 diesels in regards to power. The 7# series is way over priced in Oz for what you get IMO.
 
Anyone care to guess how many more years the LC70 will last in Oz with these updates? If safety/handling requirements went up a notch again in five years time, what more could they improve?

My dad bought his HZJ75 new in 1992, and I have always said, if/when they announce it's coming to an end, I will buy a new single cab as a toy.

I am not a fan of the auto hubs. You still need to jump out and lock them for anything vaguely resembling 'decent' offroad conditions, and now you need to use a tool to do so!

The bonnet design looks great though, and the other various tweaks/updates sound pretty good. More electronic stuff to potentially go wrong over time - but that's progress I guess.

If you want something bigger ,you can buy these for the same or less. More rugged if you want to use it offroad.
Plenty of ex govt/FESA,power utility low klms units for $40k. The American pick ups would be nicer on the freeway/highway if that's what you want.

My uncle just bought a Mitsubishi canter and as he said it's a thinking mans Landcruiser. I wouldn't mind buy one of these iveco daily 4x4

It's the same size nut as the wheel lug nut, so no additional tool beyond the wheel nut wrench.

If you are permanently in 4WD, then I agree manual hubs are better. You can get the Aisin manual hubs and retrofit them to the 2017 if you want to. In most other regions the Auto hubs are standard and are fine. For mining or farming applications, where the vehicle is always in 4WD, then it may make sense to go to the manual hubs.

The point is you need to have the wheel brace in easy reach now, instead of just jumping out and flicking the Aisins in by hand.

Would it be a simple case of unbolting that auto-hub front plate and bolting Aisins on, or is there more to it? I would prefer manual hubs, but I can see why some people would find the auto setup to be ok.

Hi Roscofj73, I don't think they compare anything truck related is expensive when it comes to servicing repairs etc. The point I was trying to get across is if Ford Chev and Dodge bought the full size pickups in via the normal dealer network in RH drive they should be around $60-70K as they cost about the same in the USA as a Mustang. the LC70 would not compete against these in luxury, power or towing capacity for the around the same price.
 
Grey nomads would love them then they could buy bigger caravans but there not much good off road in OZ as you would soon tear the mirrors off and scratch and dent the panels from being to wide. The good thing is you would not be stuck in others wheel ruts. :)

But they wont be that price for the same reason they don't export them here. They have to shut down the assembly line and convert it to making a small batch of RHD vehicles as well as making a small run of RHD parts and then convert it back when they are finished.
In the past ,the small volumes that have come in are from when the US plants were quiet and the vehicles were more simple.
Those small 4x4 trucks from Japan are not that expensive to fix and in many cases they are cheaper than landcruisers because they are not landcruisers.

There is only one thing worse than being stuck in someone elses wheel ruts and that is having to make your own ruts.

I was under the impression all new models of Ford will be designed for both LH and RH markets under Fords new Global Strategy. Another reason we don't see any new F trucks made in RH drive is they are just keeping up with orders for the USA market. Ford USA already wacked another $5k on the price of the RH Mustang to Ford Australia, even if they did charge for the tooling change wouldn't be as much as a conversion.

V8 7x series different track width front to rear how does that play in to the rut argument?

And the width, seeing as the largest sector of 7x users is the mining sector this wouldn't be an issue for a majority of the market.

I'd take a HDJ over a VDJ any day.
