Hey guys, just figured a very clean workaround for the spare tire holder not working with TRD Rock Warrior Rims!

Step 1 = cut the closest link to the dongle in half
Step 2 = cut 1/2 inch (no more!) off the sleeve of the guide tube
Step 3 = test by inserting in same manner show in picture
Step 4 = reconnect dongle (weld) to main chain again :)

The following picture shows the dongle making it through the opening. A neighbor who was a mechanic in the air force helped me figure this workaround. Really didn't want to have to put this on my roof rack or build a swing-out for this. Phew!

Thanks. I will be doing this mod once I get my spare wheel.

you can also not take the chain apart and skip the welding all together. Just take your dremel, cut the collar off at 1/2" as pdxlc200 mentions above.
when you go to mount spare wheel back on, slide the loose 1/2 collar pc. up the chain and once your bracket has passed through the wheel (hole) let the 1/2" pc. slide back down on the chain. I don't own a welder so thats how I went about this fix.
thanks

Very nice!

(but still not big enough for 35s)

:(

No there's no stuffing that in there - ha
That's what she said

I just did this using willy's recommendation to just cut the collar and leave on and it works great. I used the pneumatic saw.

Did this just like the others and worked like a charm. Went one step further and cut the 1/2" price off so I didn't have to deal with it sliding down.

Not sure that it matters but that cut piece is tapered at the top and probably so it seats in its resting place secure once it's cranked all the way up into its bracket. Probably doesn't matter though. Just an observation I had noticed when I tackled mine.

Oh well. Guess I'll find out tomorrow when I mount the wheel.

Just an update installed fine and tight with the cut sleeve piece removed.

I cut the sleeve like others have done. Works perfect. No issues.

I don't really like the idea of cutting the sleeve and having it look like a hack job, nor do I have easy access to a welder to weld a chain link. But I was thinking one of these (attachment) might do the trick. But I'm not sure if it will work with the assembly that draws the chain up. chain link.webp

That looks like a great idea. Let's us know if it works out. I cut the sleeve.

When you're ready and have the wheel to mount up you'll understand.

The "bracket" that holds your tire in the spare tire area is to large to fit through the center hole in your RW wheel. The chain has nothing to do with fitment.....its all about the collar. Read this whole thread again and I'm betting it makes more sense to you.

I think I understand it so far. The plan I had with that removable chain link is that I could disconnect that bracket from the vehicle by cutting a chain link, put the bracket under the tire and then re-connect the it to the chain.

Good idea - seems like a PITA to have to fiddle around with the bracket under the tire though.
good luck to you

So true! I had looked at all the pics and write-ups on here and when I finally lowered the factory spare to swap out with a RW, it all finally made sense.

My bonehead move of the night though was taking the TPMS sensor out of the extra RW wheel I had and putting it back in the RW wheel instead of the TPMS sensor out of the factory wheel. That make sense?

BTW, the TPMS sensor in the factory wheel is made in Japan and the TPMS sensor that comes in the RW wheels is a TRW.
