It's the direction Toyota has taken the Landcruiser that I don't like. In particular, the lack of mechanical lockers on US 100s, and all of the running board, plastic stuff, and the marketing of the vehicle to folks who have 60K to spend on a rig they will only use on road. And it's not so much the price the bothers me, its where the extra cost is directed. I'd like a variant with no third row seats, more leg room for front seat, easily removed second row (I.E. latching seats like present third row), no running boards, no plastic bumpers, and have it sprung and geared for larger wheels, solid front axle, lockers, etc. I'd pay Toyota big bucks for a off road specialized Land Cruiser. I'd be extra thrilled if they would offer a longer wheel base version similar to the old troop carriers. I'd give up a bit of trail capability for more cargo room. It's clear that they are not marketing new Land Cruisers to folks like me. And I understand why, as the market is small.

so you want a 78 (or are they 79, can't remember) series troopy, coil front, leaf rears, gutsy turbo diesel, FF solid axles etc, and a 105 series, with either gutsy petrol or diesel 6, lowish gearing (lower than my 40 anyway) solid front axle, no 3rd row seat, vinyl floors, no running boards or flares, and massive wheel wells...

Don't think I didn't research the Aussie models before I bought my '97 80. Can't get 'em where I live, at least not at a reasonable cost!

yeah i know, just commenting on the blanket statements made on here about toyota not being offroad orientated

260,000 miles.

Let's see any other vehicle out there get as far up the trail with as few repairs as I have ever had to do whether on the trail or the road.

I have a '70 model bronco 1/2 cab (35 years old) with over 300,00 on it (not the motor) and it is a very capable rig.

I don't believe that our Cruisers are the only thing that will get you (up the trail) but there are very few vehicles that will do it and last as long ...I agree.

Driver skill also plays an important role in determining how far you go and with how much damage (or lack thereof).

Still, there are other vehicles that are "worthy".

But when it comes down to which vehicle I like the best......It's the Cruiser hands down!

ShottsUZJ100, Nice Rover you got there is that yours? :)

Kind of. I had a New Range Rover body put onto a 100 chasis. That way I could have off-road ability while looking like I belong on Rodeo Drive. :)
