Lack of power

OK I know we're not driving Ferraris here but I took my 92 to Northern AZ this weekend and it was a little sad, with 4 adults and 2 kids in the truck all I could manage on some hills was about 45 mph with the pedal through the floor. Now I'm not talking speed bumps here, more like 6%-7% grades with a 30mph head wind (never thought I'd be talking wind directions when it comes to a car!)

Is this typical? Any suggestions? (real ones, not something that will cost me $5000)

O2 sensors if they're old.

Adjust the tranny "kickdown" cable so it's downshifting as it should.

With that grade and headwind, your truck thinks it's doing 110 MPH. I wouldn't sweat it, as Tools said you're doing about right.

Change your plugs as well if they are old. Mine was a bit sluggish and the gas mileage was pretty bad until I changed the plugs. Now it drives like a complete different animal, gas mileage isn't too bad and the power is greatly improved.

I've had it up some hills as well up in PA that have steep grades with no issues even towing two motorcycles plus full race gear for two people!!!

What about this problem with an FZJ80? I'm not hitting as low as 45mph but I can't keep it going 70 over hardly any hills. There is also the sluggish acceleration when driving into the wind, I have to pray for a downhill jaunt to even hit the speed limit (65-70) when driving into 20+ mph winds.

big heavy truck + any headwind or grade + only 158hp = slow

Don't forget tire size in all of this data, if you have over-stock sized tires that is going to greatly deminish your acceleration/speed holding power on the highway. Prior to my 285's I could get up to 85 uphill, now I squeeze in to 70mph.

The hills in PA are way different than the hills out west . A hill out here is the same as a big mountain back east

buy a Harley.

No sweat on hills of any kind.

Headwinds just make the ride better.

Gas milage is 45mpg minimum.

Inlaws and unnessecary passengers stay home.

Rock climbing may be a bit of a problem....
