Hey Matt, next time I'll try give more than a days notice. Was an interesting weekend. I'm going to put the write up in a new thread.

awsome let me know

Since there was a computer malfunction, let's try this again:
Robert, Marcin, Sopel, myself and maybe even Pawel are in. I was looking at going in from the Boston Bar side as it looks like a very interesting and steel uphill climb (goes through the reservation there). I am still trying to figure out which days I can get off work but likely leaving Friday or definitely Saturday.
I was thinking of doing 1 night at Cabin and then going South to explore a couple more trails, may see about access into the old Coquihalla route that Craig mentioned to me a while ago.
Craig, can we expect to see you out this year? since I don't even remember what you drive anymore.

On the August long weekend, I did the Cabin Lake trip with my Dad. We went in via the Coldwater river road off the Coquihalla, the same way that Martin did, and once past the Spius Creek FSR its really an interesting trip. It takes about 2 hours from the Coq. We laid the road in on GPS so I can provide coordinates to help avoid the wrong turns that I took a couple of times.

We arrived at the lake late on Friday just as it was getting dark. The most amazing thing was that we were all alone there until about noon on Saturday when a couple of quads showed up. We had the pick of about 12-15 campsites all with great tables. It was a very quiet night at about 1900 m under the stars.

On Saturday we had a late start taking in what is probably the most wonderful camping location we have ever seen. I tried fishing but soon concluded the lake has no fish because it is shallow and probably freezes to the bottom. We tried some wheeling on a quad trail above the lake but didn’t get too far. We then decided to hike to the 1974 Conair water bomber crash site and left about 2 pm after a small group of campers from North Vancouver showed. The trail is fairly well marked except when it crosses through many of the beautiful alpine meadows along the way. Lots of hucklebrries but they probably won’t be ready until September.

I am glad we did the trek but was disappointed to see lots of graffiti on the plane’s wreckage. Going in it took us about 3 hours and coming back we made it in 1 hour 20 minutes. On the way back we got caught in a huge thunderstorm with hail of up to half an inch. This also made for a wet camp site and we had a lot of things to dry out in the nicely heated cruiser.

On Sunday we went fishing in Lightning Lake and did some wheeling on the roads around this lake and Silver Lake. I caught two fish from the shore but you really need a boat to make a good go of it. We did the mini “Whipsaw” both down and up but I didn’t find anything to be very difficult. The alder is very heavy along some of the unused roads. We saw a grizzly bear about 50 m ahead charging away from us on a narrow road. Fortunately, I had removed the cap on my exhaust bypass so we sounded a lot meaner than what he was used to.

On Monday we wanted to beat the rush back to Vancouver so we came out the same way we came in. Next time I would do the South Spius FSR out to Boston Bar. All in all we had a great trip to what is a great camping destination location. In addition to the wheeling, a Cabin Lake trip has a lot for everyone.

Jeez Matt, that sucks. This is just the kind of trip you look forward to, what's the deal with your rig?

That is the plan, I am taking Friday and Tuesday off (yeay!!). Marcin suggested doing a trip North from Cabin, into the areas that Dieseler went into - https://forum.ih8mud.com/ca-bc-coastal-cruisers/304319-now-boys-drive-we-take-2-lcs-vacation.html
We were there a couple years ago and explored Billy, Tupper, etc. but there are still some trails left there we have not touched as well as we never ventured into the mines. The trails there changed a lot around Chataway due to logging, the first trip we did there was a series of constant u-turns and dead ends. This time should be different - I hope :)
As I sat there looking at the maps and what other trails would be interesting I realized that I have explored almost all the major FSRs in that area and a lot of the small dead end ones too. This is sad, we're going to have to venture further to see something new :D , life's issues.
Can we look forward to see you on this trip?

I'm in. Just have to be back Monday. That's why I'd like to leave Friday. Keep me updated to your plans.

What time and place do you think you'll leave from?

I'm planning on Friday morning departure, 8:00 from Port Coquitlam. Meet at Starbucks on Oxford before 8:00 and we're good. We can meet Marcin in Mission at 9:00, get Sopel on the way out there too.
Robert won't be able to leave Friday, so he'll meet up with us at Cabin on Saturday. I will have my Spot with me again so those joining later or net-wheeling can enjoy:

It will be up and running on the trip.
If anyone else is joining at that time let me know.

Cabin lake has no fish, Lightning has fish and so does Silver, I am still undecided where I am going.

I am coming -- as well Bill and maybe Gary T. Will advise as to plans. I will likely be in Vancover thursday on a truck/camping parts shopping spree.
