Hey SoCal 80s. Here's my new to me 1996 80.
I bought the truck about 3-4 weeks ago. 205k miles. Clean title 2 owner with an impeccable maintenance history. Repainted DS door and front PS panel swapped due to employee of PO backing up into panel (documented).

And comes equipped with:

"Monk Cruiser" is currently non-op vehicle.

I bought this truck because it is going get my family and I out to venture places. Plus I love my kids playing, running, jumping, and crawling all over the truck.

Ok. Now for some questions about maintenance history. Of course one of the concerns for our trucks is HG failure. Well here's an invoice from 2003:

And here's an invoice from 2005

And here's an invoice from 2009

All of these invoices have the valve cover gasket being replaced. Is this the HG that we all speak of? Please school me.

The PO was the owner of a Electrical firm/company. A bit of a tech so the truck came equipped with a few interesting and cool items.

Aux for my iPod!!!!!!

image-2742957770.webp

Pioneer touch screen Navi/Bluetooth/Rear back up camera!!!!! Safety. Especially with my lil critters running around.

And new Bridgestone Duellers!!!!!

PO bought the truck back in 2001 and has been meticulous with the maintenance. I have all maintenance records.

I'm very happy with my purchase.

There are other items in the maintenance history that I will put up. Just want to make sure about baselining the truck.

Thanks fellas.

Took the truck to get it detailed today. Paint had years of oxidation. Had to clean the pooch hair as well. Clay bar and some buffing. Paint looks consistent throughout. Pretty stoked!

You sir, have the sickness. Well done. Now let's go hit some trails.

What Al didn't mentioned is that he was picking up a part at Capo Toyota and I was there for a free oil change on the daily Scion Xa and was eyeing this nice 80 series. It was Al!!! We ended up talking about the purchase for quite awhile! He scored again!!

She cleaned up very nice with the detailing. Hate to burst your head gasket bubble, but the valve gasekt is the easiy one on the valve cover, and is not the dreaded head gasket. Regardless, you've got yourselve another great cruiser.

Super seeing you with it too!

Welcome!!!

Thanks fellas. I want to get the truck dialed and base lined first. Def looking at a mild lift and light armor. Def looking forward to hitting some trials.

First, I want to swap my BF Goodies tires only that are on the Monk cruiser to the wheels on La8enta. You guys know a guy? Shop? That can do this relatively cheap? San Juan Cap?

Also, I forgot to mention in the intro that La8enta also came equipped with a Viper alarm. I dig it but most will say that an aftermarket alarm causes more headaches than anything on our 80s. I posted this in the 80 tech section. Ill throw it out to you guys for any experience with it:

After getting the truck detailed my dash, parking lights, tail lights, and trailer harness light would not go out. Read a few threads and I removed 15a fuse on the board for tail lights. I would like for my lights to work properly. 80s tech is claiming a short caused by water somewhere and others claiming it may have to do with the Viper alarm. I wouldn't mind keeping the alarm but if I have to remove then so be it.

Any help would be greatly appreciate it.

Nice pick up! Drooling over Monk cruiser.

Rear main for $350? That's dirt cheap.

So you're holding on to the Monkcruiser for life now? You do realize it will never be the Ferrari barn find right? It's after all, 30 years later,.. it's still an 80 series.

$350. Ya. PO had all his stuff done at a shop near seal beach. He'd been getting the truck serviced there for over 10 years. Maybe they hooked him up.

As far as Monk Cruiser. Well.................... It's one of those father/son and maybe daughter thang. I don't plan on keeping it stored. These vehicles were meant to be driven. I do have it cover cause if it's not my kids and their friends will damage stuff. But I do hope to maintain it to give to my daughter and son one day. Hope that doesn't sound cheesy but I love driving the La8enta. I hope my daughter and son dig it as much I do and they can enjoy driving a brand new 80.

Stoked!!!!!!! Electrical gremlins defeated!!!! I was having issues with my lights not turning off. Here's what made them go away.

Viper Alarm 5701 on top of the existing factory alarm back from '96!!!!!!! GONE!!!!!!

Now. I get in La8enta. Starts when I want it to. Door locks are back to normal. Lights work the way they should. Driving it to work tomorrow!!!!!

Btw. I did not do the work myself. Called my cousin. It was too much for me. Daunting. Down right scary. Wires all over the place!!

Congrats! I had to do the same to my old truck. I have an aftermarket alarm on my truck now that I may remove eventually. I have it on a very short leash. Once it starts acting up it's gone.

Thanks Brent for letting me know about the valve cover gasket. So.......... Now a question on the PHH. Looking at this receipt

image-292199237.webp

Is the bypass hose and coolant hose the PHH that we need to replace? If it has been replace. How can i tell? If not. What hose does need to get replaced? Name?

image-292199237.webp

Boy - it certainly could be the PHH by that description. If you know where it is, you might be able to tell by the look/age of the hose. You're showing the labor descriptions. Any part description on the left of the invoice?

Regardless, that was almost 7 years and 100k miles ago. If it was a factory PHH you may want to replace it again anyway. Go with the silicone and never worry about it again.

Ok fellas. Here's the part description pic of the invoice

image-2213923013.webp

Not much of a description.

But here is another invoice from 2011.

image-3680577315.webp

I know the location of the heater hose. I can't really tell if it is newer though.

@eric. I saw your thread and noticed your swap of the PHH. I may have to hit you up for some pointers and advice.

Thanks fellas.

I changed my PHH a couple months ago and it took me about 30 min. It's no fun and rather painful but doable. If you need help bring it out and we'll replace it.
