Ok. So La8enta got all fluids flushed and replaced. Looks like the brake fluid and the transfer case fluid hadn't been changed for over 200k miles!!!!!! Just plain black!!!!!!! Rear axles fluids had been changed maybe once. Fronts?????? So much for a solid maintenance record on this truck. Ha ha. Def rides better!!

One item of concern. Head gasket.

At one time the radiator was changed.

But when I checked out the radiator cap there was a bit of sludge on it. Best case scenario. Radiator is years new. Radiator cap is old and was kept from the previous radiator. Ill double check with the previous shop that did the work.

No foul smells or white smoke.

I'll drive my truck like there's no tomorrow.

Almost forgot. La8enta got 6 new plugs. Everything else was solid! Even heater hose was fine. Not hard or brittle.

Update on La8enta.

I have driven about 1k or more miles. And the truck is driving and handling exceptionally well.

Monk Cruiser had the 285s BF Goodies.

La8enta came equipped with the 275 Duellers.

So today I swapped tire and wheels on both trucks.
Here's how both trucks look.

After driving them both. Monk cruiser drives really smooth with minimal road noise.
La8enta drives with a bit of road noise. The BF Goods have about 7k miles on them. The truck drives as I expected: bad ass!!!!

Now the only thing I've been concerned about is HG preventative maintenance. Truck has 206k miles. No heating issues. No white smoke. No misfiring. Soooooooooo.............. I want to eventually do the HG. So saving money.

I'm on summer break. I want to hit some trails. Local. Maybe cruise up Ortega. Check it out.

I wouldn't even stress about the HG. Make sure your cooling system is up to snuff. The temp guage on these is so dampened that most of us don't realize when they are running warm until it's too late.

I few weeks back I had some electrical gremlins messing with my lights and aftermarket stereo. I was bummed because I had no toons and kept playing pandora from my iPhone. Well. This morning I checked a few fuses from the instrument panel. Then my dad looked at me and asked me to take a look at all of them. Instrument panel fuses were all good. Then I checked fuses from fuse block from inside engine bay. Here's what I found!

Voila!!!!! After replacing it all my dome lights worked! Clock worked! Chime for keys in the ignition switch and door open sounded. And most importantly my stereo with aux and back up camera worked!!!!!! Today was a good day.
Not stressing on HG, but I am exercising the front and rear locks. Rear not engaging. Front engages fine. Hammered the rear just a little. And continued to exercise. Any suggestions?

Hey Al, I got the same issue on my 80. The DOME fuse keeps blowing... It's been a year + still haven't been find the issue. I have search several time for that gremlin but haven't been able to find it yet! I've just done without any dome lights for the time being and got my friend Jerry to rig up my stereo to work. :)

I think I have a short somewhere behind my dash but, I haven't really had the appetite to open that can of worms.

Ya man. I don't know if you're like me when it comes to your LC, but I tend to lose my s*** at times. I get eager to open up the can of worms. I just want to get to the source of the problem.
Well. Do you have factory alarm or after market? Any possible way that you may be getting moisture from the bottom of DS windshield into the fuse instrument panel?

My issue started after I had my LC detailed inside. Carpets were cleaned. When I picked up the truck the carpets were drenched. And I am pretty sure I heard some electrical disturbance. And then my radio went out.

Yea, I think your right. My sunroof leaks down the passenger side windshield post. Like your LC, my floor gets soaked if I leave it out in the rain. The dash could be shorting there... I generally keep it in the garage because of that reason.

I tried new fuses and disconnecting my stereo but no luck. I really just need to open that can of worms, pull out the carpet and dash and find the short. What bothers me is that once everything is totally dried out, it still shorts. I may drive into this in the next couple week. I will let you know if I find that gremlin! Thanks for the feedback.

In some of my previous post I indicated my concern for HG issues and failure. I was concerned about my radiator and the over all condition of cooling system. Truck got a new radiator in 2009 done by the PO. Well I noticed a bit of sludge build up in the radiator. Here's what coolant looked like and new and old radiator cap.

I was kind of freaking out. After searching for answers I found that this film and sludge is due to a mixing of green and red coolant. Not sure how long thats been in the radiator. So La8enta
just got a full radiator and engine block flush and filled with 50/50 Toyota Red and distilled water. I will keep an eye on the radiator for anymore film and sludge. Plan on doing another flush after a few months or so. If radiator turns out to be fine I will be looking for a medium lift.

MAN!!!!!! The highs and lows of owning a Land Cruiser. Here I go. After doing a full radiator flush yesterday I drove my LC today and it was leaking radiator fluid.

In this second pic I can see through the opening shining my flashlight the highest place where I can spot coolant. I did see some coolant running from the other side.

image-3760718287.webp

I asked my cousin, who works at Toyota and did the flush, and he said, "I told you. A radiator flush will expose some weak spots."
He asked me to look around with a mirror. Maybe a loose clamp???? I was maybe thinking a hose?????
What do you guys think??? Head gasket? No misfiring. No milky stuff. No white smoke.
Suggestions to rule out some items or specifics I can check????????

Thats under the throttle body and manifold? PHH and Bypass Hose are located near there IIRC.

Well if I shine a light through there I can see some coolant, but it def near firewall behind block. My neighbor, being a plumber, is gonna let me use his camera that snakes through tight places. Some have suggested taking off the hood and laying across the back near the firewall. We shall see soon. I'm really really hoping its a hose. Fingers crossed.

Got into the engine bay this afternoon. Went from all angles all up in there. Then decided to crawl through DS front wheel area. I checked PHH. And PHH is def leaking.

Not sure if any other heater hoses are leaking. But it seems like an excessive amount of coolant lose to be coming from one single hose.

Is that pretty normal????

We shall see.

Just ordered PHH from 1FZFEPHH.com.

Absolutely on the PHH. Hindsight, but probably would have been a good idea, just due to age to have replaced all the hoses in the coolant system with the flush.

That's just way too much cooland to be a HG issue Al. Anything leaking out of the HG to put that much coolant ont the ground just doesn't make sense. It'd burn off on the engine before hitting the ground.

PHH and all the hoses near the firewall is what I'd be looking at too.

Thanks for your advice Brent. Ya I still have to take a closer look back there and underneath with my neighbor's snake camera. I can't really tell if there is anything else back there that is leaking. I'm waiting patiently for my neighbor, but I may just go rent a snake camera from Home Depot or whom ever may rent one out.

I'm just bummed. My summer vacation is over in about a little over a month. I thought by now I would be all over some nearby trails and local spot. But the truck is just sitting in my driveway or on the street. Sucks!

Thanks for the info of the shop who did maintenance on the truck. May visit it for rear main leak. Congrats on the truck. I got my first cruiser a few months back with 208k miles and have done lots of maintenance on it since. Mine is also white.

I removed the DS front wheel and got to the PHH hose from there- it's a 30 min job with easy access.

Thanks man! Ya. I will eventually have to do that.
Tried to get in there today with Milwaukee M-Spector camera. Useless. Camera is so tight and narrow its no bueno!!!!!
Still keeping fingers crossed its the PHH.

Alrighty SoCal 80s. A bit of an update on the '96. Not sure if this counts as a build thread, but........ My 96 LC just got all new hoses. Silicone PHH. New belts. New radiator. New water pump. New fan clutch. New cap, rotors, plugs, and wires. And most importantly a new HG grind kit which includes HG and everything above replaced. Head and valves were serviced. All parts used were OE. Truck is running very buttery.

Truck has 207k miles. Recent gear and brake oils swapped out and replenished. Thinking about doing this again. My cousin at Toyota Capistrano suggested.

So..............................???????? What would you guys do next as PM?????? I would like to get my rear lockers to engage. But other than that what other stuff should be worked on????? Any wiring? Stuff in engine bay??? Maybe there is something I haven't thought about???? In the process of new stereo and scanguage. Looking also at a mild lift. Not thinking of any armor. Thanks fellas.
