Im looking to buy a 40 with an 8000# Koenig pto winch.Does anyone have this setup or any feedback on this winch.from what I have heard, these are great winch setups.Pics will come

I have seen more Koenigs on landies than tlc's ....however they are still a really good pto winch

the only think i can recall is that the pto sticks down a bit far...nothing a good skid plate cat fix :)

You're all over it.Thanks for all the info Johnnyc.I just picked the 40 up,and the winch is electric.I will investigate more and get back.thanks again

I had a Ramsey PTO winch on a FJ25. The PTO itself was a Toyota PTO. I don't believe anybody ever made a PTO to that bolts on the side of the FJ25 other than Toyota. On a FJ40 I have only seen Toyota PTO that bolts to the side of the transfer case and the Ramsey that bolts to the back of the transfer case. You might find it's using one of these two to work. If it is a Koenig I would like to see a picture since I've never seen one.

Well I guess being electric explains what PTO is used:doh:

A buddy of mine had been horse trading for parts for awhile and needed to do some house cleaning. He sold me two pto winches he had collected for $25. One was a Ramsey, but I couldn't tell what the other one was, it literally looked like a big ball of grease and mud. One day I started cleaning the ball of mud up and noticed it looked like a vintage piece. Turned out it was a Koenig King Winch, I had never heard of them before. I completley dismantled it, checked it out to make sure everything worked right, had all the parts powder coated ($100 cost), reassembled it with some homemade gaskets, and sold it on eBay for darn near $1000 US. The thing looked brand new. The guy who bought it had also just bought a nicely restored Willys CJ3B and wanted a period winch to go with it.

I still have the Ramsey.

I have only heard good things about the Koenig King winch.I also, had no clue what a Koenig was until I had one. With some research, the winch seems to be a keeper.

Here is the only pic I have. It's an 8000# Koenig King Winch.Elecric but could easily be converted to PTO.With the motor/gear box on the pass. side,it should work well with sag.PS

How do you intend on getting live power to the passenger side of the truck?

Hydraulic... PTO conversion?

I am keeping it electric, but there is a spot for a pto shaft. It would not work with a cruiser drive train, since it is on the pass. side.I think most were mounted on LR and Willeys.

I had seen on forestry rigs....the winch setup with a chain...then you would be able to mount it on the opposite side...

here are some pictures of what i mean (last pic i mirrored to give you what it would be like on a cruiser) :

Johnny C,you have all sorts of great info on Koenig. Thanks brother.I like the electric.Less s*** under the truck. Will Iron Works still sell replacement parts for these winches?

well iron works has not been around since the early 90's?

the new company is RKI ... and they make the Koenig still and parts are available...IDNK if they are fully compatable or not...however...you can ask? :)

its a good idea that if you were needing some parts to take pics and dimension the part so they could match it up.

RKI - Commercial Grade Truck Equipment
