When rebuilding the knuckles, if you keep track of placement and re-use the original shims is there a need to use the special centering tool when putting them back together?

Thanks your help!

If nobody has been into your axle before then you will probably be ok. But if someone has, I would suggest checking the shim thickness with the tool (or find another clever way to do it, if you look there are ways people posted up). I did my front axle service and six months later, and only a couple thousand miles, it was leaking again. When I tore it apart the next time with the tool in hand, I found that the shims were WAY off. I'm 1 1/2 years later and several thousand miles and no leaks since.

Centering tool for rent? Who has them?

I've read here that a few Mud Members have the centering tool for rent.
I am also getting ready to rebuild/reassemble my front axle and am interrested in renting a tool.

Sincerely,

Bill L
