Engine check light came on (plus "VSC malfunction", center diff light, flashing "4 LO"). Took to mechanic who said code was "9033D" and that there was open in the circuit for one of the four knock sensors. Says that it is likely from a rodent chewing through the wiring and that he sees a lot of that, but won't know until he pulls the intake manifold and can directly check the sensor. Says that if it is just a bad sensor that I should replace all four, since it is not uncommon for them to go bad.

Vehicle runs fine, but won't go into 5th or 6th gear.

Has anyone else had something like this happen to them? Either the rodent thing or the knock sensor?

Rodent damage is super common on cars. The closer you live to a large rodent population i.e. in the sticks or the longer you leave your vehicle parked, the greater the chance of the pesky critters chewing your wires, hoses, etc.

I've been known to keep a rat trap under the hood of my 80, which mostly sits in the driveway:hillbilly:

Definitely have had rodent damage. I am still seeing intermittent electronics issues of various sorts and I'm wondering if that little bugger did more damage than what I have already had replaced. Without tracing each wire and cable, I may never know. RODENTS SUCK!
