What springs will everyone be running? I have full rear bumper with 3 cans and spare tire etc. Pretty heavy rear and want to make sure I get the correct springs if i do this upgrade. Front has full bumper and winch. I am currently running OME 2.5 but the rear rubs and doesnt tug completely with spacers and 35s. Feels like the rear is sagging a bit one one side. Time to replace the OME.......

I will be using OME heavies 2.5 with these shocks :)

Any chance an FJCruiserforums.com guy could get in on this for an FJC?

25001-124A FJ Cruiser 06-09 Front 2.5 Coilovers w/ Adjuster Res. $1,800.45
25001-125A FJ Cruiser 06+ Rear 2.5 Shocks w/ Adjuster Res. $1,134.75

I'm interested in this setup and curious what kind of deal you could get. I'm sure many others would be too if you posted this up over there.

Thanks

Let me get a price for your parts, thanks for using part numbers, it make things a lot easier.

Not sure how many more you need, but I am going to cross post this over on T4R.org to see if anyone over there might be interested. I am going to link this thread.

FWIW I'm going to hold off. I took a drive in Oversteer's truck and the result wasn't what I was hoping for. Granted, his shocks were shimmed at 2 and his tire pressure was most likely way too high but the resulting drive felt a little harsher than the Ls I have now. I'm not totally giving up on them, I just need to experience them with a different shim pack and in an actual washboard, high speed road to get the most out of the experience.

Sounds good, thanks jynx :)

So, everybody is cool with sending $1900 to a guy who has been here less than a year?

I haven't been around a bunch lately, but that seems awfully trusting.

Regarding payment, I prefer to have the full amount $1880, if you can not do the full amount then PM me. I will package your stuff nicely and provide a tracking number for your shipment. You can paypal gift me to avoid the 3% charge at nhpham@gmail.com or you can pay the fees to secure your purchase. I have set up 2 other group buys for sliders/skid plates and AOE bumper group buy, members on mud paypal gift and no one has any issues thus far. When someone asked for a refund due to severe delays, I refunded their money immediately.

This makes me feel a little more comfortable, but that's still a lot of cash...

FWIW I just got through participating in a AOE bumper GB that Socallove put together and it was done above board. The risk is yours to evaluate! Just my 2 cents!!

Thanks for the kind words Gorge, I understand that is a lot of hard earned money. Ultimately the decision is yours to make, but two group buys so far and I followed through. The bumper group buy was roughly $10,000 transferred to me, some paid directly to the fabricator. Everyone received their bumper and they are happy with the savings and they seem to be happy with the bumper as well.
A member decided it was taking too long for a skid plate and requested a refund, I transferred funds to him within 30 minutes. Obviously I want to save money building my truck, anyone interested in the product is welcome to join in and take advantage of the savings :)

I've been drooling over these ever since that recent thread. What's the lift spec on these, stock height?

Down South Motor Sports can and will get the Kings made in any size for an 80 series. Off the shelf King only makes them for about a 2" lift. Or at least that is how it was last time I checked. I have bought from DSMS and all I can say is they are awesome.

I will update with more info tmr morning regarding shipping, payment, tax, stock and how long it will take to arrive.
Jose: I believe these are 12" will work with 2-4" lift. I'm hoping someone can chime in on their experience, share if you have positive or negative, both will help.

Hate to break it to ya but 12" is to way to long for 2" lift and a bit to long for 4" lift. I got Fox 12" right now. My truck has Slee 4" coils with a 1" spacer in the rear. 4-5" of lift in front gives you about 4-4 1/2" of up travel on the 12" shock. For me this works because my bumps are at 4". In the rear, I had OME J's and 1" spacer before the Slee's. With the J's + 1" spacer up travel is only 2-3" on the 12" Fox. With the Slee's + 1" spacer up travel is 3 1/2" to 4". So from lot's of play time with suspension and shocks I would say your best bet is simply to call or email DSMS and talk to them about the lift you have, ect ect ect. They are probably going to want you to measure compressed and extended lengths. Which means, remove whatever shocks you have now and flex the truck up to the max.

I have got Fox 2.0's right now, valved fairly stiff. They didn't cut it with the OME coils but with the Slee's it is much better. I am going to go with King 2.5's sometime in the future and will buy them from DSMS.

Bottom line, 12" shocks suit 6" lifts, will work on 4" in front but not so much in the rear unless you like bottoming out your shocks. 5" of lift 12" shocks will work too but really 12" shocks are best suited for 6" of lift.

*Edit: I thought I should add this. When I bought my Fox I had no way to flex the truck up to the max. 2+ft of snow on the ground means I can't access my dirt mounds to flex it up here on the property where I live. I don't have a forklift. I have never been able to get it any truck flexed up to the max in the shop just using jacks and an engine lift. Only a forklift or the dirt mounds have worked for me in the past to get it flexed to max. On the back 40 at my place we got some big 4ft tall dirt mounds. So what did I do? Well, I measured ride height of the shocks. Looked at 12" shocks and it sure seemed like a 12" would be just right. I took compressed and extended lengths and divided by 2 to get ride height. When I first put the Fox 12" in the rear and set the truck down I had 5-5 1/2" of up travel. I was stoked on that. But my truck at that time didn't have hardly any weight in it or on it. Soon as I started adding rear bumper and other gear it sagged big time. The front has not changed a lot, even from OME mediums with a 2" spacer to Slee 4". It is the rear where I am seeing lot's of changes. This was the first time in the last 4-5 shocks purchases where I didn't flex the truck up to the max before shopping for shocks. So I would strongly recommend you get the truck set up with weight and how it will be for your uses. Pull shocks and flex it out to the max. Take measurements. Every time I have done this in the past I got spot on with the shocks I bought.

Cheers

I have 3.0 smoothies on the front and 3.0 quadruple bypass kings on the rear of my ram 2500 and I absolutely love them. The key to getting what you want with any high-end shock is in the secret sauce that is valving and spring rate matching for the specific vehicle. I went with Carli Suspension (custom valved KING shocks and Deaver Springs), because that is all they do...High End Ram suspension and tuning. When I get to the point in my 80 build (read: done adding weight) where I am ready to get some high-end shocks, I will go with whoever I think got the magic valving is dialed in the best. The KING valve techs are primarily focused on the big dollar Baja race trucks most of the year. Off the shelf Kings will fit, but I wouldn't bet that anyone has done the trial and error testing to get it perfect....if someone has, I am in.

My next large purchase for the truck will be a set of kings....

FYI, DSMS will re-valve for free, I think they said for life of the shocks. It is not super hard to re-valve them yourself, easy actually but ya there is some knowledge involved and "magic" if you will. Since I have not doe it a lot it would be guessing for me.

I agree on the coils with valved right shocks. 100%. OME coils don't seem to cut it for me, I am really liking the Slee's. So that is what I am sticking with and will get the Kings valved fairly stiff when I buy them since my truck is an overland build, ie heavy ass pig! The weight doesn't really matter for extended/compressed length but it matters for valving. I have only been playing with 80 suspension for a year or so but from what I see, things change a ton with weight, height and so forth. Definitely seems to take some playing with to get it dialed in for a specific set up. At least for me, I am not really into the whole buy the OME "kit" and bolt it all in. My objectives are stock geometry (and parts) with 4" lift and handle/drives nice running around from 6200lbs all the way to 7000lbs.

Cheers

+1 for DSMS. My brother has a set of custom valved kings on his FJ cruiser and the ride is amazing. Its planted and compliant but also takes bumps and whoops like its nothing.

Bump for feedback on another year of fiddling.
