Anybody in SoCal know of any 3rd party places that are able to reprogram me a new key for my 98 land cruiser? its the eletronic one, and I lost it. Toyotas telling me the labor for programming it with the ECU is 810 dollars. that's not the biggest issue though- here's the issue.
I haven't had the car very long and realized im not going to keep it, so instead of registering it and paying all those taxes, im just going to sell it, ive got buyers lined up for this week to come check it out, but I lost my only key and Toyotas telling me they need MY NAME on registration in order for them to reprogram me a key. I told them ive got bill of sale and insurance but in the process of selling so not registration. they won't allow it. so again, my question: does anyone have any 3rd party key places that can rewrite/reprogram the key/ ECU, without needing registration? (im really not trying to drop thousands of dollars on this car the week im selling it just for a key)

You will need someone to cut the key and program it. @Mauser can help with the programming part.

Not the solution to the key issue, but you might want to check your state registration law. In some (many) states what you're describing (reselling without registering and paying taxes) is illegal. I'm not the registration police but if this note helps you avoid inadvertently creating a much bigger problem, hopefully it's helpful.

Yikes

It's a long shot, but if you've got an acquaintance who has a dealer license they might be able to help you out.
