Okay, total duh moment on my part...I was thinking there was some hidden hole or something (no jokes, please). Yes, I did know about the hidden key.

You are not alone. Most of the fob tricks (like windows automatically opening) were also unknown to my friend who drives a lexus sedan. It has the same features as my 08 200...and he had NO IDEA he could do any of those tricks.

Also it's the only way to lock your vehicle with the engine still running.

Actually no, there IS another way.

1. Roll down window.
2. Step out.
3. Close door.
4. Reach inside window, hit "lock", roll up window and pull your arm out to avoid being crushed (well semi-crushed since it will roll back down after sensing your arm as obstruction).
