I need to replace the battery in my key but I cannot get the casing open. Is there a trick I don't know about? Thanks in advance

should be a tiny screw on the back side. unless some one glued the case together like they did on mine.

They snap together and snap apart. Be firm but gentle and it will separate. If you kill it, they are $5 on eBay.

You gettin a CR 1616 3 V to go in there? I was told that was accurate and bot a backup but dont know yet if its gonna work.

I just got a battery replacement from the watch department at Wal-Mart. I only needed a small set of jeweler's screwdrivers and I was good to go. There are two cases, sort of, with an inner "pod" inside the outer shell. You have to remove the pod from the shell, and then open the the pod. The battery is easily accessible and replaceable.

Yup, one small phillips to separate the halves of the key shell. Remove the "guts", and then two small phillips screws to access the hatch covering up the battery.

CR1616, pretty much any department store carries them.
