OK, so this is becoming a yearly event. I had to clean my wife and daughter's bathroom sink pipes and trap because the water wasn't draining out of the sink. The culprit......a big glob of hair/toothpaste/general nastiness that had accumulated, most likely initiated by the hair ball.

The question: Is there anyway to keep their hair from going down the sink short of shaving them bald??? Like a small filter or screen or something?? Anyone have any ideas?

some strainer would work, i have seen in some kitchen sinks a strainer that is as fine as a tea strainer, doesnt seem to back up water either, until of course it gets full of whatever it is (hair in your case).

A strainer should do it, works in bathtubs. They usually aren't small holes either, something like 3/16" x 10-15 holes. I've seen them with a tension fit so they stay put.

The screens suck because they just make the tub fill up when youre taking a shower. At least you can reach down and grab the hair plug every time you shower (if that is a positive).

I am all too familiar with that glob.

If they don't ever use the stopper you can remove it and replace it with a screen that slips into the drain hole. It's shaped like a small bucket with a lip around the rim and just sits in there. It's easy to remove to clean.

Question: Would your wife and daughter look good like Sinead O' Conner?

If yes then shave them bald.

If no then get used to the glob its part of being a man.

Twice a year. When we first moved in one shower was very slow and with a coat hanger I pulled out a huge "hair mouse". My wife screamed and said "How did a mouse get stuck in the drain?" Hence the name. It is a right of male existence.

Thanks a bunch........I'll look for one of the strainer type thingys.

FWIW, the Sinead cut wouldn't look good on either one of them. ;)
