The automotive "decline" started a long time ago, roughly coinciding with the development and introduction of the emissions and fuel economy compromised UR engines.
But new cars do seem much worse now... like all things have gone to crap at once with this most recent generation of vehicles, versus individual things slowly declining over the past decade or two.
Drive an early/mid 2000's (peak Toyota) model then immediately sit in and drive the latest 2025 of the same or similar model. It's just a complete and drastically different driving experience... it's mostly worse.
