When I went under my 2018 LC to loosen the supposed 5mm Allen for suspension work, I was surprised to see 8mm bolts there that seemed to be made of aluminum. Apparently Toyota responded to the rusting problem. Just sharing.

Got any photos? I wonder if it’s possible to use those new parts on the older year models.

Its not the bolts that rusted - its the housing they reside in. Hope you're 18 is made not from a cast product though.

Im pretty sure the upgrade would require opening then refilling/pressurizing the KDSS system. Something requiring special tools and knowledge.

I doubt its worth the work.

I'll take pictures. I would agree with Bloc though. We always talk about not going over 3 full turns to avoid the entry of air in that pressurized system...

We always talk about not going over 3 full turns to avoid the uncontrolled discharge of high pressure (>600psi) hydraulic fluid ...

Just so you know.

There you go.folks

Wondering if this was done not to prevent rust but to prevent breaking an allen wrench off in the head when it is rusted.

Why this part isn't painted is beyond me.

Well if those are flange head bolts, tightened up flat, then that will definitely keep the threads from getting rusty. Squirt some paint on that valve, should be good.

Plasti dip should be good....prevents water ingress but should be easy to turn those screws when needed
