OK boys and girls....I need some help with mounting this carrier I bought from a guy here who has only 7 posts and I can't get in touch with him. I have no instal instructions and I can't find anything on the web. :bang: Does anyone here have one of these mounted on their rig that can help me out?

I can figure out the big parts but there are some smaller parts that I am unsure how / where they mount and what their functions are. :hhmm: If anyone has a copy of the instal instructions or pictures of how this thing mounts to the rig, I would appreciate it if you could post them here or email them to me.

Specifically, what are the 2 pieces in the center under the carrier? Where do they go and what do they do?

Thanks,

The middle right piece is your I don't know what. Maybe it broke off? The other I have no guess.

The middle right piece is your latch to close the thing.

The "latch to close the thing" is built into the carrier assembly on the left side...

That bracket on the right is a gas can hold down bracket...two of them came with the carrier from Kayline...

The other little bracket.... No idea.

Post up some other pictures of it.

Oh, and if you have a clean 40 series, I would suggest finding a different carrier, as you have to drill many holes into your corners....

Also, the pivot bracket will not support the weight of the carrier empty when opened, let alone if you have a spare tire, fuel cans or something in that kustom basket.

Your hinge and clasp brackets are upside down in the picture...

:meh:

Those carriers are Mickey Mouse at best, not worth the effort....

i am building one and using the spare tire hinges i hope they support the weight one jerry on each side basket in the middle no spare tire

I will get some better pictures up as soon as I can. The picture is the one the seller posted. As for the unit itself, I didn't expect it to be the beefiest thing out there. I really don't care if I can't open it because of the weight. I just like the look of it and as my 40 is no where near clean, drilling the holes doesn't bother me at all. Any other help would be great! :D

So here are some close-up pics of the 2 pieces in question.....

The first has got to be some kind of catch. Poser, are you saying that this is the part that holds down the jerry cans and should have come with 2? If that's the case, then I am not worried about those at all.

Here is the other piece. It is just an "L" with 3 holes drilled in it.

Any more help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has install instructions, I would gladly pay you for a copy of them. I would like to get this thing mounted before the weather warms up.

Thanks,

that last piece must have rattled against something - why the tape otherwise ?

just a wild guess

The last piece mounted on the drivers side, opposite of the hinge side, to carry the cantilevered weight of the tire carier. The latch doesn't do any good to support weight, it just holds closed. Yeah, it rattled/sqeaked something awful. The latch Poser told us about hold the gerry cans in place and provide for a lock. The straight piece with a very little bend at the end slips into a slotted piece on top of the carrier. The loop hooks over the handle on the can, the notch over the lid of the can. Line up the hole in the long camming arm with the hole in the arm over the carrier and slip on a lock, or in my case a nut/bolt combo.
I chopped up my old kayline after repairing my rusted wheelwells and sill and used it in the manufacture of a rear bumper and tire carrier. I got the weight off of the wheelwells and welded up all of the holes.

No, I don;t have the original instructions. That was a long time ago when I installed it.
I do remember that it gave dimensions to lining up the holes in the right spot.
I still have the diamond plate corners that were mounted under the rack. If I get time this weekend I will try to remember to pull them out of the rafters and get some dimensions.

It might be as easy as holding the mounting pieces up to the corners and seeing where they fit the radius the best. Have you tried that?

The cooler rack on top was not original to the carrier BTW.

go to http://www.tlc4x4.com/sales/gallery/22035/source/6.html for another picture of the same rack mounted on a 45.

Exactly! And even if you HAD the instructions, it would be BETTER if you test fitted EVERYTHING for yourself.

Since you indicated that your rig is not in the best shape, you cannot be certain that the rear quarters are square to the bed and rear opening, and stock measurements might be less than useful.

Personally, I wouldn't waste the time. It WILL break. And break, And break some more. It is the saddest excuse for a tire carrier I have ever seen....bar none.

I pulled my diamond plate corners from the garage rafters. These were mounted with the carrier. The carrier brakets were centered on the corner radius. Both the carrier and diamond plate have been removed from my 40. I cut one of the can racks off and used the tire carrier and remaining can rack as part of a frame mounted carrier. After welding up all of the holes and repairing the corner rust I wouldn't dream of putting all of the holes back in the rear corners.
