K&N Air Filter, increase performance and mpg?

K&N filters with intake systems work on a lot of vehicles, but the 80 doesn't seem to be one of them. When looking at the intake design it's very free flowing already as opposed to many newer vehicles out there.

Spend the money on something else.

I bought one thinking I would see the same results as my Xterra, but it was the complete opposite. I was getting 14-15 mpg with the stock tires. Then my rig went through an ignition and o2 meltdown which brought it down to 13 after resolved. Put some 295s on, then it went down to 12.5. After reading this thread I scratched my head, bought a stock air filter, and with 295s I'm back to 14! THROW IT AWAY.

Interesting...

...mine came from the PO with the K&N already in it. After reading this thread, it looks as though I'll be getting rid of it and replacing it with a stock filter.

Ditto..ditched my 1mnth old K&N after reading some tests showing more 'dust' getting thru (w slightly higher CFM) than OEM, yikes

My rig came with a K&N and it was the first thing I replaced

I've been selling K&N's for 17+ years (even have the ping pong ball demonstrator in my shop), but I refuse to put that garbage in any of my own cars

When clean, they flow great and filter like poop :o

When dirty, they filter great and flow like poop :o

To top it off, they're expensive to buy, expensive to maintain and you risk possible engine damage for horsepower gains that can't be felt

OEM is the ONLY choice
