I wanted to find out if anyone here had purchased a K&N air filter and if it improved the performance and mpg of their 80 at all? I just want to know if its worth getting one.

Welcome to Mud. :flipoff2: (friendly Mud salute). The general consensus is no. The Toyota air filter is high quality and washable/reusable. You can do a search; click on search, type in the words you are looking for connected by a + sign.

Oh yeah, a K&N will get you well into the 25mpg range.

A K&N will not give you more HP or increase your MPG. The stock intake is pretty efficient, and basically a straight in design.

i ll trade u mine for stock yota filter im in colo let me know

Another note, the stock air filter is huge. If that doesn't let enough air in, then no other filter will either.

I'll have to agree with you Tyler and jlm43. Sounds like Ill stick to the Toyota air filter :D

i had k&n before from the PO, i changed to stock air filter, better and doesnt crack at -40c weather.

Very interesting info guys. I have a K&N in my 60 and I looking to see if any threads were up on the subject. Not much dust here in the swamps of NC or very cold temps. but you never know what will come next.

Get rid of it!

Mine came with a Krp&N from the PO
First five steps on my Base-lining process:
Step 1 ...... Stop at Toyota dealership, Order Stock Air Filter
Step 2... ... Take out Krp&N Filter and JUNK IT :flipoff2:
Step 3....... Install Proper Toyota Filter Tested and proven effective over 15+ years in the most inhospitable dusty and otherwise 3rd world country climates imaginable.:D
Step 4 ...... Clean the MAF/Air Meter to undo the damage caused by the Krp&N filter!
Step 5... Have a  and say  to the Toyota engineers for doing their homework on designing such an awesome filtration system for our rigs!

Stock Rocks. MPG's are going to suck for the most part with fj80 proper tune up will gain more than a K&N. Anywho everytime I have done a drop in K&N in a vehicle the max I got was a quarter to Half mpg more. Now my banks powerflow intake on my Titan gave me about 2.0 mpg gain so it has paid for itself and then some, but who cares it's Titan.

k&n on the 80= poo poo

K&N on the 80- No difference.

Cone filter on the Kia- 3-4 MPG gain.

Seriously. I drive that Kia 40+ miles a day. Swapped out the stock filter box for a "cold air intake" (for kicks and giggles), and MPG shot up from 32-33 to 35-36.

However, on the 80, K&N made no difference whatsoever. MPG went from 12-13 to 10-12.
