I’d be interested to hear about any experiences with Just Differentials (aka Nitro Gear) in Cashmere, WA. I’ve been trying, and failing, to get them to follow through with an estimate on new third members for the front and rear of my ‘99 Landcruiser. I’m beginning to get a little frustrated with their lack of response. I’m serious about getting this work done, but a particular salesperson there doesn’t seem too interested in my business.

I used them to install my arb lockers. They botched the install and it leaked from pretty much day one. When I complained they said it was the lockers fault ie bad design. So I spoke to ARB and they said otherwise. When I relayed the message to Just Diffs they said it wasnt their fault and if I wanted them to pull it back out Id have to pay for it. Told them to **** off and ended up doing it myself. That was 10 years ago tho but from what I can gather customer service hasnt got any better.

And my locker is still leak free after redoing it myself.

Not an excuse but unforntunately they probably have all the same staffing issues everyone else does right now. I've been waiting on a set of gears for 4 months now with not very good communication on their part: seldom returning calls or emails. JT has had a pretty good reputation- and Carl had been great supporter of the forum. I seldom heard issues with people or product.

When JT sold earlier in the year to DPI offroad I wondered how that might impact products and service moving forward- maybe this is the result of new ownership-

Obviously wrong side of the country for you, but if you're up to shipping heavy stuff around the country . . . East Coast Gear Supply outside of Raleigh is phenomenal. Dropped off my front diff with them Spring of '20 and had it back (they shipped it to me after the work) with new R&P and a Harrop locker in about a week.

They have a great reputation--a friend of mine in CO used to do driveline components, and he sent ALL his stuff to them. Maybe worth at least checking into if you're getting the silent treatment . . .

Plenty of places that'll work for your business...

Zuk (gearinstalls.com) or Cruiser Outfitters are some of the best in the business, and neither will leave you hanging like that. Zuk even documents all his installs and posts it all on the site—thanks to that, I was able to DIY mine. It's not as hard as it sounds (when Zuk points everything out first, haha).

Yeah I would suggest Torfab also. In Everett WA.
I have had nothing but the best experiences with them. Super nice people honest timely.
What stated out as me needing work on a rig has developed into a friendship of kinds

Good luck finding gears

I would avoid them at all costs. They have the worst customer service I have ever experienced and I have noticed a decline in quality of their parts recently.

I’d be curious to know what specific components you’ve noticed a quality decline in-

I suspected that with change in ownership that quality of some products might decline- I’m most concerned with gears, and those have been made in TW for a long time by one supplier - it would suck for them if they changed anything that might negatively impact brand reputation-

Very limited options for quality options Toyota gears

the #1 thing i have experience with is the nitro 100 series uca's that appear to be the same as all of the other taiwan made uca's with a cheap taiwan ball joint. I paid $800 based on their made in Australia claim, the ones I got are even in the same box as another set of roadsafe uca's I have on the shelf that say made in taiwan. The nitros had no country of origin listed on the box, but justdifferentials said they are made in Australia. Roadsafe is an Australian company selling taiwan made uca's under a few different brands (blackhawk, nitro, roadsafe etc).

Carl was the one who kept manufacturing of their gears with the same supplier, I would not be surprised to see daystar (the new owners) change to a cheaper gear supplier without letting anyone know or adjusting their prices to reflect cheaper manufacture. The recently dropped the price of their uca's, but they essentially pulled a bait and switch on the overpriced uca's that I received 8 months ago. Their customer service is horrible and even if you can get someone on the phone, they will not do anything to fix issues.

On my last order they listed the item as in stock. After I ordered, I got an email immediately saying they were out of stock and asking if I would like a refund or to wait for backorder. I said refund, maui said I was refunded. after 8 weeks with no refund and the same email run around, I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Master card could not get ahold of them either, so they gave me a credit and went after justdifferrentials to get their money back, which took 3 months.

One of the 4 complete diffs I bought from them over the last few years was extremely rusty (large chunks flaking off of the iron case). I would have thrown the core they used in the trash.

The other issue I had was I paid a core charge for a 200 series diffs (stronger case) and received 2 thirds with 200 series gears in an 80 series diff. I paid $200 extra in core charges (the 97 and older 9.5" diffs are $150 core, 98+ are $250) for the stronger case and received one rusted out 80 series diff and another clean 80 series diff. Again, you cant get anyone on the phone and their customer service says they are taking care of it but do nothing.

I highly recommend zuk for gears, he has build a lot of toyota diffs for me over the past 15 years and I have never had any issues. Zuk checks all gears before installing and will not install gears that have quality issues, so no matter what brand you go with you know they will last.

Another thing - at one of the local club meetings over the summer, not a single person had anything good to say about nitro/just differentials/jt's. Literally every person that had ever used them had an unresolved issue with one or more of their products. When the customer service is that bad, I don't trust the products they sell.

That’s good 1st hand experience- thanks.

If Zuk made gears I’m sure they’d be the best, but he only installs em. And fwiw he’s not taking on any new business for 2022. ECG will be doing my gear set ups as soon as theres an available option.

Unfortunately Nitro is really the only option for 100/200 these days unless Yukon decides to expand their offering. Nitro has been out of stock in 4.88’s for 100/200’s since August

Thats a bummer about zuk. his word of mouth business has exploded over the last few years.

The nitro 200 series 9.5" 4.88's are nice gears, huge step up over the pre 97 gears in ring gear thickness and larger pinion gear. I still recommend those (not like there are a whole lot of other options) as long as their quality doesn't change. On a front diff though, there are other 4.88 options.

Yeah there is more than one option for the front- but I’m wanting to keep the supplied gears matched front and back from one manufacturer. The 9.5 200 series 4.88 and 32 spline is what I’ve been patiently waiting on……

I’ve had 4-5 diffs from east coast gear supply, back when they were smaller I never had any problems with them, but since they’ve grown I’ve heard of a lot of problems with them, even myself.

I blew a elocker diff on a 06 Tacoma on 32s easily driving around on a beach. I was across the country when it happened and they wouldn’t even work with me on expediting the warranty diff (staying in the place where it broke for a week). I had to order a new one and then fly back, swap it in and mail the old one back to get eventually get the refund.

I’ve heard of others saying they have great warranty and rushed them diffs, but I got diddly squat and no sympathy or even working with me on solutions. I essentially had to offer to buy a new diff for them to even consider sending me a new diff without having the broken one on hand, and I bet if I sent them in the broken diff who knows how long it would take them to build me a new warranty diff.

I wonder if parts availability was the motivator. I would have done something like this until the supply chain cleared up instead of being frustrated about the lack of components.
I’d imagine so.

Or a combo of both. Brutal year with everyone buying up the stock of gears and supplies available. Tons of work. And now no gears around and several months out for ETA.

Seems like the smart choice for a stress free year.

I have an order for gears 4.88’s and ARB front and rear lockers at Nitro. They have never returned an email but at least pick up the phone. They told me late January for gears which I really don’t trust at this point. Anybody else here any other updates from dealers possibly?
