ok so I finally got into another tee-yoda! just picked this up from a car lot whom really didn't know much about it. so just going through it trying to clean it up a bit. its a 91 dx with the v6 (really wanted to find a 4cyl but I didn't have much to choose from and gave in to this 6) . 164,xxx miles. obviously has a lift but not sure on brand or height. its sitting on brand new 31's (hopefully get some 33's on it sooner than later) 4 wheel seems to engage and crawl great! I need to find some new door hinges , driver door sags like an old ladies udders :p . some seals need replaced , both pinion seals and trans out put . didn't come with keys for the doors so I gotta round up new door cylinders and a few other odds and ends other than that seems like a decent rig . on with some pics sorry it was getting late and I didn't want to wait til day light lol also id love to hear if u have any suggestions , tips or info as this is my first toyota pick up. I had a 75 fj 40 but nothing other than that

Regarding door keys. Pull the cylinder from the passenger side door. There will be a code on it that you can take to the dealer.

Ya doors are the same as the ignition key. If you need a set of door locks, I have a spate set here I'll send you, no keys but the key code is clearly visible. I also have a set of door locks with ignition and keys but they came from an 87 truck, not sure if the ignition will fit in your dash.

Actually the dealer can make a key off your Vin number. They did it for me.

thanks KLF ill let u know. ill call the stealership and see what if they can and what it will run to have keys made from the vin or cyl #. thanks

Not for all years. They couldn't for my 85 ... which is why I was told to pull the cylinder.

also would it be a PITA to swap a 22 re in ? or would i pretty much just need to source a 22re/trans and bolt it in? oh and of course engine harness and ecu

They did it for my 89 so I'd see if they can do it for a 90

We get this question all the time. Anything can be done with enough $$$, but it's definitely not bolt-in. Yes, you would need the engine, trans, and harness. Plus, move the engine mounts on the frame.

Looks like a pretty nice rig. If mine had been an extracab I probably wouldn't have demoted it to just yard duty. Looks like a trailmaster style lift in it and bushwhacker flares. I prefer the 22re also but I know a few guys who have had really good luck with the early V-6's longevity wise. Just really poor mileage and lackluster performance. But still more power than a 22re. Also if your ignition key doesn't work in the doors my bet is the ignition cylinder isn't original. So getting a key cut by the VIN number would open the doors but probably won't work in the ignition. My 89 is like this.

i think a 3.4 swap would be easier than going to a 22re

yeah after thinking about it im not gonna do a swap. i think imma pay a little more off my DD (2013 nissan rogue) and then trade it in on buying a 98 or newer crew cab tacoma. my kids really dont fit very well in the extended cab. lol knees all shoved into the back of my seat haha. but in the meantime ill still be cleaning up and enjoying this rig :)

just a heads up!! thanks guys toyota was able to make a key just from the vin# ! and it only costed $5 . does anyone know where i can get new bushings for my trailmaster lift? the bars in the rear than run from the frame to the bottom of the leaf spring mounts on the axle housing . the bushings in there are shot
