IT is NOT a 40th!

It MAY be a Collector Edition.

If you offered him $18k and it's what you want why let 500 bucks get in the way?

I offered 17.5. I wasn't ready to pay 18K for some reason. I actually came across a 100 today in excellent shape for 19500. Drove it and thoroughly looked in over. Much different truck than the 80. V8 was nice and it had the rear locker. I know it has the IFS but I was taken back by how nice this vehicle was. it had 79K with a clean carfax record. Man I'm all over the place. This was the second offer I lost this week and neither of them were unreasonable!

Why not slow down, and think about it logically for a sec. Yes it’s a low mileage truck. So what. You’re paying a premium for something because of the age and mileage, in addition to the market. Why not look for a truck with say 80 or 90k on the ticker from the South. What you save will more then pay to have it checked out and shipped. Or make a road trip out of it and enjoy your new cruisah. The point I'm trying to make is the mileage is going to rack up. Don't worry about it as long as you keep a well maintained rig.

I just finished buying a 97 with 90k on it. It is a 40th with lockers and some other upgrades. I looked all over the country for a decent truck and eventually bought one. The 40ths bring 16-19k depending on condition and miles and lockers. If thats what you want and can afford 18k, buy it and be happy. I paid 18.5k because it was the truck that I wanted and had factory lockers, Supercharger, lift and new tires/wheels. I never saw one in person that was less than 16k that had lockers and was in decent shape.

Which is the Front and rear axle service, all fluids, tune up. This service if you do not do it your self is a $2000.

Is this service so expensive only b/c of the lockers?

Front axle service + rear axle service + tune up + all fluids = time. That is why it is expensive regardless of whether the vehicle has lockers or not. None of it is difficult and that's why most on this forum do these things ourselves.

I'm sure it's the cost of all this service that is one of the motivating things driving someone to sell their truck at this age. They would rather use that cash toward a new vehicle.

But then Rick, they don't know what they are selling, maybe to buy a new Heep or Cherokee or worse a Landrover. How can someone possibly sell the best rig in the world to settle for something much lower after having driven the truck for some years.

My heart would stop beating :bounce:

good day waggoneer5: A couiple of questions for you on your 40th. Is the interior two tone, exterior sage green, serial number on center consel, climate control, upgrade stereo? Only questioning because it is really rare to have locker fr&rr on these trucks. and you state you do. I know of only one and he regeared and put ARB's in his. later robbie

Robbie,

FWIW, my 40th has the factory front and rear lockers. It is not Emerald Green though; it is Antique Sage (sorta gray) or whatever the other color was.

scoop looks good, Wag
just for looks or functional?
E

I bought the truck with the scoop already on it and its not functional. Since the hood has holes in it now I am thinking of reversing the scoop and making it functional to let some of the engine heat out. If that dosen't do anything, its going to get a new hood.

eh, isn't your sig missing something?

I'd prefer a non-40th, the climate control is a pita! I did give offers on both my trucks before flying out to see them, they were great deals. That sounds like a good price, but a fake 40th makes me nervous. It's possible someone just wanted the badges on their truck, maybe even the original owner. If they went to that trouble maybe they took some pride in it??? People add gold badges and other aftermarket stuff all the time, why not?

How hard is it to roll back the odometer on these 80s, harder than getting all that 40th stuff on it?

Or a 100, as the seller of mine did. They were retired and just wanted something newer, but said it didn't seem any better than the 40th with 90k on it.
