Just joined, Hi

Hi to all,
I have been reading your posts for a while now and have just signed up. Thought id say G'day. My name is Dave and I live in Yass, a small town near Canberra in Australia.
I have been looking for a 55 for ages now, and its becoming harder and harder to find one, let alone find one thats not rusted out. we've had a 55 in the past, a 76 model. (ill try and work out how to post a pic) also a HJ60, HJ75 and recently a HZJ80.
Im suprised at the differences between Aust versions and American versions. We have a liking to Diesel down here. Most cruisers getting around are diesels, whereas you guys have a prefrence for Petrol - I can't fathom why..?
Ive worked in a Toyota dealership for several years now, if anyone has any questions about our Oz models, dont hestitate to ask..

Hey Dave - welcome......good luck with your search for the elusive running 55...@ least you have an option most north Americans do not - namely in the form of the 75 series pickup -rather nice also, to say the least....I'd still rather a pig though. It is unfortunate the family pig of days since past is not still at your disposal -quite the sheep/kangaroo catcher on the front bumper. happy trails -DK

Yo dood, I've got a question for you! Do the knuckles off of a 70 series cruiser work on an 80 series axle? I'm looking for a cheaper high steer solution for an 80 axle and I noticed that some of those 70 series have E-lockers AND leaf springs, which makes me think the knuckles might have 4 studs up on top like a mini knuckle, but I'm unsure if mini steering arms would work AND if the 70 knuckles are the same size as 80s knuckles..

Does that make sense? Thanks dood!

Im pretty sure they are different. The only 70 series's that I have here atm are coil sprung, late model stuff and dont have a 80 to compare. There should be both in here in the next couple of days and ill have a look. In the mean time Ill ask around for you....

Dave's right. 80 knuckles are a different beast than the 70 (which shares a birfield that is quite similar to the 40/55/60/mini whereas the fulltime 4wd 80 had bigger birfs).

Hey thanks guys! I wasn't sure if the 70 birf was the same size as the 80. I guess looking at the Toyota part numbers would have been a good start...

Welcome! Remember, better a rusty pig than no pig at all. Part of our apparent preference for gas/petrol over diesel may be availability. Chevy V-8's practical grow on trees here, but suitable diesels are harder to come by. Best of luck in your search!

Our old 76 55, Unfortunealty the new owner rolled the poor old thing, it is now in Piggy heaven **rip** When I recently asked if I could salvage any parts he told me he buried it on his farm. What a F*&!er.. Some people just dont deserve the air they breathe...
