Because they were not raised to respect other people's property. If I had gotten caught riding my dirt bikes on private property without permission I would no longer have a dirt bike, that simple. My father drove me around our area and had land owners that we already knew sign permission slips my mother made up stating I could ride on their property. If I damaged crops, no more scoot.

To this day I will not set foot on posted property, will not go on private property unless meeting the owner etc. People drive on my land all the time out by the main road, did you know that it is illegal to shoot at them? Maybe a paintball gun :)

I'd be the dick that would setup some sort of tire popping apparatus to teach them a lesson...then my wife would drive over them and yell at me...

Red Clay Rally is coming up, they will tear more private and public land up too. At least they wont be in NC, but will fook sheet up elsewhere.

Red Clay Rally 2018

"Rally 2018 will take place in Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky, and West Virginia. Last year's rally brought concerns from locals that the heavy traffic would bring attention to trail closures etc. It did not, but 2018 will avoid this by going much more remote in an attmept to minimize this concern. "

I thought about that, I'd be liable. If I put big rocks out there and someone hits them, once again liable. If they peg my huge Oak tree, I can sue for damages to the tree. Aint the law grand.

So far as the rally dudes are concerned. I have spoken with a few of the participants at different times over the last few months. And honestly they seem to be clueless about the attention they bring to some of these places. When it comes to these places any attention is bad.
Which brings another point. The vetting of individuals before giving them grids or worse a whole route.
With advent of technology you can literally give a 10 digit grid to a trailhead or a whole route to people you have never met over the internet. I think this is part of the problem as well.

A Tread Lightly seminar with a written test would be a great prerequisite to an event like this. Don't pass, don't race. Get observed violating a tenet, get disqualified and sent home.

As a Master Tread Trainer, I would agree and would volunteer to do it. But the organizers where clear last year, they don't give a rats buttocks and pretended nothing happened in the non-racing-but-drive-as-fast-as-possible-between-here-and-there event race.

You could reach some of the drivers, the Careless and Uninformed could be salvaged with some insight. The Unskilled would be too proud as they already know everything and will continue to use their lockers and tear the trails up. Then you have the Unwilling lower left crew, they only follow if LEO is involved, an then again not all the time either.

Maybe. I just don't think an event that caters to that many vehicles is feasible in the east coast. Maybe at some of the larger private parks in Tennessee and Kentucky. But, doing a "race" event on the types of dirt roads that are out here on the east coast is just asking for trouble and unwanted attention.
I don't think they are taking into consideration the amount of deconflicrion that needs to happen with local property owners, local law enforcement, local municipalities to make an event of that magnitude (I believe it is around 200 vehicles, but I could be way off). Are they doing all those prior coordinations? Face to faces? I don't know. But in the absence of all those things bystanders will likely make their own assumptions. And it is never painted in a positive way.

But what do I know.

Our postal lady continually runs over my grass -- I have re-planted it twice watering it, etc. I need to get some big rocks to protect my yard. My original plan was to bury 2x4's with giant nails sticking up about 2" hidden with some "new grass with straw on top." I think she finally got fired, though, when she knocked the neighbor's wall over and then on a 2nd occasion, pulled their stout mailbox down.

But, remember...the organizer says it isn't a race, and he defends that with the fact that the definition of 'rally' does not include the word 'race' o_O, so that must make everything all peachy keen, right?

Are they charging an entry fee for this thing? Awarding prizes?
