before I go to bed, some observations. Cell/wireless service sucks in S.D. and Montana, at least those who have to rely on AT&T and TMobil.
Still trying to chase down the oil leaks. Got all but one bolt on the oil pan re-snugged, but they didn't seem to really need any snugging. Next is to find a oil filter wrench and give the filter a turn. Other than that I am clueless as to where all the mess is coming from. I put in one quart in about 1500mi, so as long as that does not get any more, then I should be ok if I carry 2 extra quarts with me :-)
The turbo sure makes it run, but it does have it's limits, mainly hot uphill and head wind. Most hills if I tackle them right she just marches right up them. There where some that I had to back off and one I had to shift to 4th. Head winds and long gradual climbs are a bummer too.
She drives nice and straight, hands off capable :-) no drifting or chasing ruts.
Don't thing the mpg will get any better, the last tank was about 15.5mpg.
Probably cross the border tomorrow.

Congrats on the purchase! Sounds like a great trip. Will you be crossing the border at the Sweetgrass crossing on I15?

Who'd of thought a vehicle of that age doing 1500 miles and your only major concerns are nipping up some bolts.
I hope that's all I'm doing when I do my shake down run.
Sounds like you've got a great ute there. Good luck with the rest of your trip.

Just curious, are you sure the oil leak originates with the engine. Have you inspected the inlet / outlet of the Intercooler?

The fitting to the intake/throttle valve shows some leakage., not enough to make a mess. The only reason that I am a bit concerned is that the engine is a rebuilt with some 7000 or so miles on it. Looks like there is leakage coming from the front of the engine. There is a little coming from the turbo area but hard to see where exactly because of the heat shield. Gonna try and rule out the oil filter today.

Probably the first time ever the girl got ice, and not from Charles spilling his ice drink:-)

Coldtaco stayed over for a night, i hope i provided a decent break from the road. Not a bad location for it, although i say so myself, as it is not far from his halfway point. We got some looks in the local small town, i get plenty with the Troopie, but with TWO 75's, both right-hand-drives, i noticed a difference in the number and length of stares.
That is lovely, lovely pick-up, i can attest as i've now seen it in the flesh. In the last picture is Coldtaco driving away this morning, about 180km east-south-east of Calgary.
Glad you could stop by, Coldtaco.

What's the go with no front number plates? Don't you need number plates?
I had my plate stolen 2 weeks ago and it only took 1 week before I was pulled over. I have 14 days to replace it or I get a fine.

Which reminds me I better sort it out.

61mk+ thanks again for the hospitality.
dropped the truck off at a shop that came highly recommended to install a rad hose heater. did a radiator flush, for some reason the fluid had alot of rust in it. she sure bucked and snorted for a long time and smoked this morning. found the source for the pesky oil leak, or at least one of them it ended up being a loose bolt thing on the lower front right side that I think has something to do with setting the oil pressure. still trying to figure out if the alternator is good or not, tech determined that we are loosing .5v from the alternator to the battery. could not duplicate the high charging rate. probably because the truck sat for a couple of hrs before they got it in, so probably will have to go drive it around town for about an hr or so to wait till it duplicates the indications and then take it back and have them test it again. maybe should have them test the glow plugs just to make sure they are all good.

........." she sure bucked and snorted for a long time and smoked this morning." ........
Did you use the manual glow plug override?

The 12 volt system is not suited to cold starts so I would recommend having both battery's pumping 12 volts into your starter powered up buy a 40 amp relay from ignition switch.

Hello Billy,

In the province of Alberta a front license plate is not a requirement.

Well, got out of Calgary today and stopped in at the rhd 4x4 "expert" shop in Edmonton to buy a set of glow plugs, and ended up getting some more stuff :-( so another big hit to the wallet. More snow, mist today. Parked in Whitecourt, AB tonight. Installed the new glow plugs before dark. Get to try out the lower radiator hose heater, see how it does overnight, even though right now it's still pretty warm at 31F :-)
Plan is to try and reach Fort Nelson by tomorrow night. Then try and make it to Whitehorse, then Anchorage, but that last one will be a looong day so we will see.

I can't believe how far I have to zoom out on Google maps to see your starting and ending point for this trip! Crazy!!
