Project Inigo

Update, axles are out, hangers removed, frame prepped for link bracketry. Luke having fun with a bit of tire mockup

Thinking the 37's look better than the 40's.

80 Series rear axle housing stripped of factory brackets, getting ready for double triangulated 4 link and 12" coilovers in the rear. Lot of work cutting the brackets off, thanks Tacklebox!

Building the front axle

Big thanks to RuffStuff Specialties for getting the axle housing built for us under our tight deadline.

We really didn't want to use the 8" front on this project, so we cut the knuckle balls off to use on the new 9.5" Ruff stuff housing. The housing will except our off the shelf chromoly LC 80 axle kit. We will be using our new 32 spline chromoly Birfield kit and a 100 series style 3rd member and gears

Is your high steer kit compatible with the big birfields/knuckle balls from an 80, or mini truck birfs/knuckle balls?

80 type

assume it can be done with stock 30 splines 80 series axles instead of 100/105 series rears using 32 splines .. ( I don't like the ring bolt style on those )

COOL!

Those are the hellfire high steer knuckles I pressume?

You guys are making 80 series knuckle balls? Are those a one off or are you looking at producing them for sale as well?

You said "100 series style third member", which diff are you tossing in there? Is it going to be a high pinion?

I like where this thread is going. I gotta admit, I thought you guys were just another vendor on this site, seeing you build this cool rig and your love for the 70 series, well, I think its changed my perspective of JT's in a positive way.

This is a very handsome truck. Looking forward to seeing it all built up. They aren't entirely common in the Grey colour and it is my favorite.

Makes me feel a (small) pang of guilt about the impending demise of my BJ74.

Yes it can be. The 98+ Ring & Pinion design is much stronger since it doesn't use the through bots wich create a void in the inner diameter of the gear. The 98+ type have teeth extending further in (much longer teeth, and more tooth contact)

100% valid point .. just don't like the idea of damaging ( somehow ) bolt thread on the ring and then .. well needed of another ring & pinion .. ( and they are expensive compared to 97 and under ..
