While we are talking about jump seats, does anyone have a picture of the correct way to have the tool kit installed in late model FJ40's?

I have a tool bag and I know it is supposed to be held in place behind one of the jump seats (I assume the driver side as that is where the jack handles are) by a black oversized rubber band. However my rig has no clips. I assume it is at least a three point system to hold down the bag.

I would love a close up shot of the right way to do this.

Anyone?

The tool bag goes underneath the drivers seat.

From Refurbishing an Early Tool Roll thread, starting 1/79, the tool kit was relocated to the top of the rear fender well on the passenger side. This uses the 1-piece curved bracket to hold the rubber band instead of the 2 metal hook and latch brackets used when the kit was located under the driver's seat. The 2 hold-down brackets are the same as used earlier.

Here's the bracket arrangement.

Thanks guys. I knew it went above one of the fender wells. Just wasn't sure what side. After looking at this I see the holes. Now have to find the clips, or make them. I think Overton sells the band. Someone also noted you can use a belt from a Hoover vacuum cleaner?

Thanks anyway for the information. I learn more every day because of you all!!!

Wscbill ,Are those seat frames the stock color.
I see them painted grey ?
I new I had seen grey before.

From what I've seen, the stock color of the seat frames for the narrow leg jump seats was gray. Parts catalog shows these starting 8/80.

From what I have been reading, the seats were gray after '78?

X2 I think that the leg changed with 81 model. My 3/79 is parked in the same garage as my 68 and 76 so would have to wait to verify.

Yes 79'+ were gray

Starting 1/79 seats were grey as well as seat belts, roll bars, door panels and floor mats

I know your post is old but.... I have a 5/80. So it would have had the wider legs? Geeeez. I have been passing on some decent jump seats.

Model year 1979 have the wider legs. The narrow legs started with model year 1980. There are different part number for the rear seats for model year 1980, and 1981-83 although both are the narrow leg style. Don't know what the difference is.

@Living in the Past so the fold down hoops/legs on a '78 should be grey correct? Mine are black, will post up pics...........my manu date is 10/78 FWIW

@SW20 thanks brother that is exactly what I suspected, going to use a light grey enamel;)
