JULY 14, 2006 COASTAL CRUISER MEETING
Members started arriving around 3:00 pm for our last ever meeting at LCI hoping to get a good selection of the goods for sale at Rob M’s clear out event. There were all kinds of old Cruiser parts, some familiar to us all, and some unrecognizable. Rob supplied a great selection of smokies, beer, iced tea, hamburgers, chips, and condiments. Marcin brought his home barbeque, and Robert F supplied fine cooking skills. We had a good turnout with at least 22 members plus assorted wives and children, as well as around six guests.
Members present: Garr C, Mike N, Drew E, Marcin C & Ania, Rob Millson, Steve T, Mat R, Craig E, Jeff S, Greg VanT, Phil S with daughters Andrea & Mya, Jim C, Jan H, Martin S, Rod MacD & Kim, Gary B & Marie from Squamish, Chris H, Barry P, Gary T, Bill W, & Mike McT.
Guests included: Traci & Rojo, Robert F, Drew M (Metal on Metal), Ryan H (dr. Claw), and Shane, Sue, & daughters from Kellowna.
The first item of club concern was the August 26 Cruiser Days. The parking lot at N. Surrey Secondary School is reserved and paid for, but the question of food services is still up in the air, and needs to be finalized. Rod McD will contact the Knights of Columbus to see if they will do it. The site insurance is in the works, awaiting a decision re food services. Other duties have volunteers such as Marcin, Jim & Lindsay handling the parking directions. Phil will supply a tent, PA system, and generator, and Mat will help him. Rob M will supply garbage cans. Traci will help in the information booth. T-shirt sales will be Jim & Lindsay. Rob Millson will be Master of Ceremonies. Bill W will sign up any potential new members. Bill W will also shop for more Cruiser Days raffle prizes such as a chainsaw, barbeque, Coleman stove, JackAll, & axes, but we decided NOT TO BUY A WINCH. Rob M will look for Recovery equipment prizes. WHO is bringing the music??
As for the wheeling after Cruiser Day, Gary T & Bill will check out the roads and the campsite will be at Big Silver Creek (NOT CHEHALLIS LAKE THIS YEAR). Members can make Clear Creek the Sunday run if they like. Bill will print some maps of how to get there to out-of-town wheelers. WHO IS THE TRAILMASTER FOR BIG SILVER CREEK??
The second item of discussion was the August 5-7 long weekend run to Whipsaw. It looks like lots of interest with the following indicating that they are going;
Drew E, Gary T, Rob Millson, Marcin & Ania, Barry P, Chris H and sons, Mat R, Craig E, Steve T & Kirnan, Mike N, Jan H & Angelica, Martin S, Rod MacD, Traci & Rojo, Phil S, & Bill W. Some members are going on Friday morning, August 4, some in the evening, then the rest on Saturday morning. Some are going in the back way from Coalmont to Lodestone Lake. Most are going in from Whipsaw. We are now using YELLOW tape to indicate Coastal Cruiser routes and campsites. Jan H has supplied a whole box of bright yellow adhesive tape; many thanks Jan!
The third item of discussion was the matter of TLCA membership. While about 21 CC members are paid-up at TLCA, that leaves around 27 who are NOT paid up. It is CC policy that our members should all be current TLCA members. Lets get with it guys.
Next item: the August 10 CC meeting will be held at the second lookout up Cypress Bowl where we had it a couple of years ago. We will take a memorable Russell club photo shoot, so BE THERE! Garr: get your unit towed up there!
As for the September 14 CC meeting, WHO KNOWS WHERE?? We don’t have a clubhouse anymore. Anybody have ideas?
The last item of the meeting was the raffle. The 4 ½” grinder was won by Traci and she turned around and donated it to the Cruiser Days raffle; thanks Traci. Incidentally, Traci is organizing a gift for Brad Reid’s daughter’s wedding. The 12 volt CD player/radio unit was won by Robert F. Phil walked with the jack stands AND the small Coleman hiker stove. Mike McT won the floodlights. WHO is buying the August raffle prizes??
After the raffle, Phil S showed Cruiser videos on this AV equipment. The main feature was the Pirates of Mohab. Many thanks Phil for your help in putting this together.
The meeting ended slowly, with members drifting off one by one in their clattering, smoking diesel clunkers, heading in all directions, grinding their gears, and attempting to blend into traffic in the hope of somehow avoiding those compulsory MOT vehicle inspections.
