One of the suggestions for the July 1 long weekend was to the
Mud Lakes area. That is located north of Gold Bridge and
Carpenter Lake. You go west of Pemberton and head north
up the Hurley FSR past Carpenter Lake and up Tyaughton Lake
Road, and Mud Creek-Noaxe Creek FSR. If road conditions permit,
and the water levels are not too high, we could even head on up
to Poison Mountain and circle around and return via the Yalacom
FSR to Lillooet. From Lillooet down Hwy 12 to Lytton and down
Hwy 1 to Hope. The most challenging wheeling area would be from
Mud Lakes up to Poison Mountain. That road could be too muddy or
even under water in spots.
My hope is to head up on Friday morning, June 29, and probably return
Sunday July 1, or possibly July 2.

Here is a crude map of the Mud L/Shwartz L area. It is no substitue for a good map book. We got slightly lost trying to locate the Mud Creek-Noaxe Creek FSR from the Tyaughton L road because our map book was inaccurate. There is an excellent campsite at Shwartz L at the bottom of a steep hill that could be quite muddy. At this point we are not sure whether we are going here or not, depending on the club meeting Thursday.

Just a heads up , the hurley is snowed in and you need a sled. Alternative route would be the anderson lake high road, over mission pass and down to carpenter lake .I'm not a club member but I lerk here often. Cheer

Thanks Indian. Another possibility is around the Kamloops area. There are lots of lakes in all directions from there. Head count: who is coming? Gary T, Bill W, Aaron, and who else?

I should be in, including kids and dog... oh ya and my wife.

OK, good. So far we have Gary T, Aaron, Phil, Drew, Bill, and....anybody else?
The reason I suggested Kamloops area is because there is less chance of snow up there and plenty of wheel'n opportunities. Any suggestions as to a specific area near Kamloops or elsewhere?

Are you in for this trip?
I think its too early in the year for Windy Ridge now. Steve T would know.
Where is Grizzly Mtn near on the map?
I was talking to Mike McTague about other wheel’n spots for
the long weekend, and he suggested some interesting areas
north of Merritt, around Nicola Lake. One area is Monck
Lake, beyond the Provincial campsite. Further north is the
Bob Lake FS campsite. Also, over on the other side of Nicola
Lake, up Peter Hope Road, is the Plateau Lake area. Near
there is also Dardanelles Lake and FS campsite. Some of
the old decommissioned logging roads might be worth
exploring up over the mountains and back into the Douglas Ranch.
One of the good things about this whole area is that it is
close to Hwy 5A, Merritt, and the Coquihalla, so getting home
is pretty easy from there. I spoke to somebody who has been
camping up there and it was still quite cold at night. Maybe in
the next couple of weeks it will warm up there a bit.
Any comments?

Drew: we'll see who's getting soft, I challenge you to a pushup contest!
Glenn-BJ74: Thanks for the info, we'll keep our eye on Hurley conditions.

I work July Long. Just saying one of these days I'd like to do the full Windy Ridge trip with a small group.

The sister peaks of Crowfoot Mountain and Grizzly(Mobley or Fowler) are on the north shore of Shuswap Lake. Trail is as hard as you make it. Skidoo cabins and historic Fire Lookout to overnite in. Panoramic views. Can return the way you came or loop either north thru Seymour arm and camp on the lake or loop south along Scotch Cr. FSR and try your hand at Gold Panning. Easily done in 2 days not including getting there and back.

OK, HOLD THE PHONE, STOP THE PRESSES! WE ARE NOT GOING TO THE MUD LAKE AREA. After some discussion at the meeting, we are now going to the Nicola Lake area and probably start somewhere around Bob Lake, and then maybe head over to the other side of Nicola Lake to Plateau Lake or somewhere like that. Sopel is going next week to check it out and find a suitable campsite location near Bob Lake. He will get back to us here and we can finalize rendevous points at that time. Looks like a good turnout shaping up with Gary T, Aaron, Rob M, Steve T, Sopel, Mike McT, Drew, Bill, Phil, Greg B, and new member Nico & wife Julie. Definite "maybe" will be Barry P and Chris H who could go Friday and come home Sunday.

My apologies SopEl. May I refer to you as el Soap??
I have here the B.C. Forest Service map of the Merritt forest district. I see that going up Highway 5, north of Merritt, you can exit at the Helmer Road Exit 315 and go directly to Bob Lake on gravel. From there it shows a "very rough 4 wheel drive" road north to Sussex Lake and beyond up to Frogmoore L. From the Helmer Rd exit you can also go south to Sheep Lake and then all the way down Nicola Lake to the Monck Provincial Park.
On the other side of Nicola L, Hwy 5A will have the Peter Hope Road going east and a 4 WD road over to Peter Hope L, Plateau L, and Glimpse L. Also, from Plateau L, you can take a trail north and come out again on Hwy 5A just north of Stump L. That should keep you busy for a while...
