Coastal Cruisers July 1st Run to Merritt Bob Lake area.

Coastal Cruisers members present: Gary T with nephew Geordie, Mat R, Drew E,
Rob Millson, Rob C, Barry P, Chris H, Phil S and daughters, Mike McT, and
Bill W with grandson Shikai.
Non-Member guests: former member Greg B, Glen_BJ74 from Victoria, Nico
& Julie D, Shane & Sue D with daughter from Kellowna/Greystokes.

Our first members left on Friday morning and met in Chilliwack. Prior to that, Gary and Bill filled up at the Chilliwack Lickman Road Flying J Cardlock for 83.8 cents per litre diesel. You have to register at the office with your driver’s license prior to the first fill up. After that, you can use the card reader at the pump.
The weather was good as we headed up the Coquihalla Hwy 5. We exited just before the tollbooths and took the bypass around. We topped up fuel tanks and stomachs in Merritt and headed farther up highway 5 to the summit of Helmer Hill and exit 315. From there we headed north and into the Bob Lake area. The road was easy gravel to the lake, and the lake has a good campsite. The lake also has good fishing and Gary’s nephew caught a few Rainbow trout for breakfast. Friday night was windy and cold, although the weather warmed up the following days. Lots of firewood and huge bonfires roasting shiskabobs and spuds.

Saturday morning more members arrived and we headed up an old logging trail along Bob Lake. Drew arrived with his new awesome tent trailer. The trail was in bad shape with lots of mud holes, off-camber banks and
narrow turns between trees. Most vehicles got scratches or dents: Chis H banged up his fender and rear quarter panel. Mat got a flat tire. It took quite a while to get down the lake and on to the Frogmoore Lakes and Sussex Lake. Mike McT led the way and actually was pretty good at waiting for the rest of us at turning points. Mat’s transfer case lever jammed and he had to limp back to camp in low range. That evening he managed to plug his tire and fix the linkage. During the day, the Forest Warden had come by and asked who was fishing. Fortunately, only the kids were, and they don’t need fishing licenses.
Sunday morning we broke camp and Chris, Barry and Bill had to head home. Phil and Nico stayed camping at Bob Lake while everybody else left for further exploration. At this point I left, so somebody else will have to describe Sunday afternoon and Monday exploits. A really good time.

I've got some old front hub gaskets and bearings leftover from my last hub job. I'll stick them behind a rear panel for some future emergency, that is if I remember they're there. Gary T was suggesting that we resurrect the thread talking about spare parts for the trail. Lucky thing Greg was there. You know, when you figure the talent and experience with Rob Millson, Greg, and Gary, then not much can stop them for long. Good on you guys!

Well the damage from this last trip keeps adding up... Scratches where expected, Passenger side Mirror was unfortunate but a dent on the front of the truck behind my bumper:mad:. How did I manage that?

Nice pin striping. Looks like you are well way on to cutomized body lines and paint. :grinpimp:

Bill, I agree with the trail supplies thread idea, if we have a couple of guys on each trip equipped (idealy everyone has some parts) then everyone will be able to get out without a tow. Also a good addition to that will be trail tools. What is a necessity and what is a good to have but can manage without category.

One of the problems of carrying too much tonnage by one or two vehicles is that their rear ends are dragging and they have trouble with low clearance. We have to coordinate by spreading the heavy equipment around among the whole group. In the past, Mike McT used to carry a ton of tools and parts in his white truck. Now that he's not using it, we must pick up the slack. I suggest at the next meeting we go over some spare parts inventory and organize this idea for Whipsaw, which I might add, is coming up fast. I'll put this on next week's meeting agenda.
