Good call on the pitman arm. I didn't even consider it being the source of the steering wheel alignment issue, but it's definitely bent. When I was reading this I expected to find it bent upwards because of an impact from beneath, but instead it looks like it's been pulled down quite a bit. This is a 1" drop arm with a GM 1 ton taper that I got from Luke. Below are pics of it today and the only good one I could find to show what the setup/angles looked like originally...the photo angles are not the same, so it's a little misleading, but the drag link is definitely at a much flatter angle than it was orginially:

Here are a couple more of the rest of the setup. I know we've discussed that the cooler is in a less than optimal location and that it probably needs to be moved more towards the firewall where it can be exposed to more air from the fan...just haven't done it yet:

You just got Georgled!

Lol

Looks like an HD pitman arm might be in your future .....

Change the cooler to a "stacked plate" style and mount it in front if the radiator.

So, this is the second pump, and I believe it was having issues prior to the steering wheel misalignment as the steering issues presented themselves the day before I noticed the wheel being out of whack. Could the arm have been compromised on the first day and created the steering problems, and then been fully warped on the second day so as to misalign the wheel?

In other words, do I just need a new HD arm, or am I looking for a third pump as well?

This! A good stacked plate cooler should keep you from eating pumps. Good call on the arm G!

This is my pitman arm. It was the prototype. Bomb proof!!!!

Awesome, so at least there's a theory - premature pump failure due to inadequate cooling. I'll get the pump replaced and get a stacked plate style cooler ordered. Assume y'all are talking about something like this:

I believe my current low pressure lines are 3/8" ID, so I'm guessing -6AN will work? Is a 10 plate enough? There are 16 and 25 plate options in this design as well.

Nolen - Bossman educated me on the pump modification I believe you are referring to. I did this on my second pump (details a couple pages back in this thread). Essentially I just added two small washers behind the spring to increase the spring pressure.

Georg - I'll text you about a new pitman arm.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys!

I used that same cooler in the 16 plate design on my last 40 and it worked great. Mine was not AN fittings though. Just old school hose and clamp.
