I like the theory behind it. But like others have already mentioned, it's a bit bulky, even with the spare tire.

My suggestions,

Keep the steps the same or similar
Reduce the material for the handles a lot, or reduce the number of handles (less bulk)
Allow function of the cans in their stored location
Conform to the rear hatch a little more
Make some sort of drop down/fold out table

ie.

I like that idea. Is that a fuel can holder right behind the gas stove???

There could be issues with that.

the truck isnt full "every" time you drive it, but the can holders will be on most times ;)
This gives me an idea.
:princess: objects to a bumper mounted tire/fuel carrier on "Her" Land Cruiser.
If they tire and fuel carriers could be easily installed only when we go on trips where they are needed she might actually go for it. It would also be cool if we could have two carriers and leave the spare in the stock position. That would gives us room for fuel and stuff like firewood and propane tanks.

What I am thinking is a modular system. The two swing outs are identical, each with a receiver that will take one carrier or one tire rack in either the right or left position. The system could be customized to fit each users needs. Or even modified for different trips.

And for trips to the Mall :princess: could ditch the whole Safari/Expedition look.

Great Idea! I also would prefer to have a removable/modular "solution" for Spare Tire/LP Tank/Water/Firewood.

Christo,
How hard/easy is it for you to do something like this from outside and reinforce something from inside. Like screw-on. Would be great and one can carry two jerry cans or one jerry can and a spare tire without replaceing the rear bumper. :whoops:... this will reduce your bumper sales :D:D

i know i've posted some "questionable" posts on here, but i've asked Mark "Cheezy" Cheeseman about doing a LC100 rear bar...and i assume ATS knows of his work, but of course you can't assume anything!

Cheezy can't fabricate the rear bar for me yet....he's too busy doing the Rock Crawling stuff and has moved into a new shop (factory) but said it would be similar to the GU Patrols rear bars here.

Please note that no i have no affiliation with Mr Cheeseman..but yes Cheezy did my side steps/sliders which have plates welded to my chassis and the side steps bolt directly to the chassis...

if i want the rear bar like on the GU Patrol (which i do) we're talking a few months away if i can get the cash and get the booking then i'll happilly post the pics.

The rear can be a combo of what you want, same as Mr Slee so you need to think about weight. That's the bottom line really and fuel economy and distance is why you want the jerry cans. Yes i have the 4.7L V8, so ignore any Aussie diesel comments on here!! Make sure you check out all of the pics posted above. It's here in case you missed it.

i hope this "fuels" your minds!! Pun intended

I like it! Where do I buy it?:D

Christo has been awful quiet lately...hopefully that means he's getting big time progress made on hundy bumpers and skid plates :D!

Was kind of glad this horrid gas can/ladder combo was not being encouraged..... :D

I still kinda like the idea... already bent a roof rack hauling water to a remote camping spot. It would be nice to have it down lower and a bit more stout (Guinness would be fine too!) Now, there is an idea... how about a keg on the bumper? I could see lots of use for that!

Bent a roof rack? What kind was it so I can remember not to recommend it...... lol I can put several men on my roof rack.

Dude you're in the wrong thread... this is the thingamabob thread :D

Now, if we start talking about a "doo-hickey" vs. the "thingamabob", I am in real trouble!

Very interesting design. Appreciate the effort to combine the jerry can holders with the ladder system. One way to trim the look is to make the steps narrower. Being squared off will give additional bite, so might still be as functional if made narrower.

Understand the dilemna on angling the second can in. However, it will look for custom that way and will address the distance to the roof rack.

As for bike attachment - extremely important since I have a RTT. Maybe have a place where the basic Yakima Boa bike rack would clamp into on the planned extra hand loop up top and on the bottom (making sure departure angle is not compromised). When I was in Moab, I used my hitch mount bike rack and it affected departure angle severely.

Can't wait to see the finished product. Again, bike mounting option extremely important, at least on my own decision making process.

Towing is also very important and I understand why you can't make claims... just make it so beefy in that section so that we will feel comfy without you stating...

Thanks for the 100 luv!
