Hey everyone, after a recent camping and exploring trip in the 62 (US Spec), I've come to the realization that my stock front bucket seats are total goners and need to be replaced, for the sake of my lower back and substantial rear end. In my search for new seats, however, I came across the JDM suspension seats for the 60 series, and had a couple questions for those who own them or know about them.

1.) Are they direct bolt ins, even on a left hand drive US spec truck?
2.) How difficult are they to source (particularly the heated seat variants)?
3.) Are they worth the ridiculous money I will probably spend looking for them, and if not, are there better alternatives?

Hopefully my idea works out but then again my hair-brained ideas aren't always the best. Thanks.

Seats are one of my favorite upgrades... I didn't do the suspension seats though...just heated leather Lexus seats ;)... so comfy

1) I would easily guess yes
2) Easy to source, shipping would be a huge deal killer unless you could find something out of Canada and lived close to the boarder to pickup
3) I'm a huge OEM, keep it all Mr. T guy-but no. Unless you stumble across one that was imported and being parted near you shipping would be ridiculous. Like @dbleon says, you'll probably be able to find newer, more efficient, in better shape, and cheaper out of a pick-n-pull.

I do not know what you would call ridiculous money but, there are a great many options available in aftermarket seats. There are also brackets available for most model vehicles. Not sure if you were looking to only go with Toyota seats.

I put a set of Corbeau suspension seats in my FJ Cruiser less than a year after I bought it, made a huge difference. Keep in mind that any bolstered seat is going to make you work harder getting in and out. The difference between a seat like this and 4 point harness vs OEM while off road is night and day.

Thanks for the replies. I'm definitely also a huge keep it OEM Toyota guy and would kill for the correct suspension seats and, depending on where I could source the seats and shipping options, would be willing to spend the money for them. However, aftermarket is definitely an alternative.

Thanks for the links Output, very glad to see they're direct bolt-ins. What was the process like sourcing them from SOR? Call and have them do the legwork of finding / importing seats or did they have them in stock already? Still satisfied with the new seats (or in other words, was it worth it?)

If anyone has a pair of seats they're willing to sell privately I'd like to look into that as well, maybe should post over in the parts wanted section.

Manuchao has WRX seats that are nice. I went with ones I got for free (Landrover heated leather drivers and highlander leather hated passenger). Nice seats are a great upgrade. When I put the seats in I created custom brackets to bolt to the floor. I put my driver's seat back a few inches to allow normal driving without a sore knee from being cramped (i'm 6'5").

I put a set of multi-direction heated leather seats from a LR Disco II in my 60. I got them free, but they can be had for cheap on CL. Not a bolt in, but you can fab brackets from hardware store angle iron and some light welding.

I have my nice, fairly clean, not worn 60 seats in the garage. They'll stay there until I sell the truck, I'm not riding another 10 feet on those butt busters.

You may have already seen this, but if you decide to go non-OEM, BMW seats are a great option, easy to find, and torfab makes these brackets to mount them in later 60s and 62s:

Or you can make your own brackets to get almost any seat within reason to fit. Plan on some light welding as said above. I made mine, but if I could have used torfab's at the time I would have spent the $120 and been done with it.

I agree with everyone above that upgrading the seats is a big deal.

Maybe pay a visit to an auto trimmer and see what it would take to mod your old seats and keep them looking stock.

Corbeau has bolt in supention seat that heaters can be added to them... I swapped turbo HJ seat into a buddy's 60 they were bolt in but only the passenger side had all the limbar and other goodies LoL
