I've been digging around on this and I can't find any conclusive information on what to do. I have a 1998 HDJ101 that was imported from Japan, but it only came with one key and I'd like to get at least one more. There is no security light on the dash that I could find, so I couldn't figure out if I have a "master" key or even if that's a thing for JDM cars. I also gather from other posts that the encoding on the chip is different for JDM cars than NA, so keys made for the NA market won't work.

Mine is the key with one small button and gold logo (same as this: https://forum.ih8mud.com/attachments/2d038802-36cf-4539-bd8d-5117564ea135-jpeg.3496135/). I do not have a key with the three buttons on one face of the key. I checked the part number on all the various sites and everyone is out of stock, I gather the keys are NLA.

Am I correct in understanding that JDM vehicles didn't have an immobilzer? If that's the case and I find a blank key with the same dimensions/structure on the key itself, is it possible to just have a locksmith cut a new key (or use the code, will a NA dealership be able to get this from a JDM VIN though?) and forego the remote portion or is there something else that has to happen?

I'd love to hear if anyone has successfully done this and what you used, also.

Thanks.

I have the same key. Does your button work to remotely lock/unlock the doors? Have you been able to find any more info on this key?

I recently picked up an HDJ101 and only have the vallet key. as far as I know there is no immobilizer on these trucks. But I'm new to the HDJ101 world.

89742-60060 is the magic key blank but that is long gone from production.

I have a 70 series this company makes keyless. https://cepinc.jp pretty sure the basic type keyless would work just fine and it's really amazing quality.

I have not called uncle on it quite yet... but I will get keyless working on this truck. drives me nutters having to use the key all the time. since these trucks seems to have come with a central locking system any aftermarket setup should be lemon squeeze easy.

That is my key. It is the "master". I don't think it has an immobilizer. Doesn't have the dash light. The button locks and unlocks the doors. It will not lock if a door is ajar. I have not been able to find a replacement. In another thread I found a place selling that part number but they canceled the order.

Does anyone have a guide on how to program this key? I followed some guides and the car seems like it is ready to accept the key but since there's only one button I can't proceed. Any help would be great!

Sorry, I missed the updates to this thread.

No, I've had no luck finding a blank or replacement. I've reached out to a few companies that have something similar, but they all ignore the request or say they don't have it.

I would guess the only way to get a new key would be to replace the lock-set. I tried to order from Amayama but they canceled my order with a "does not ship the US" reason. :(

690056B180 CYLINDER SET, LOCK
690056B190 CYLINDER SET, LOCK

I can try Japan4x4 with Dave.

I think maybe the path of least resistance is to start finding a US spec UZJ100 setup and move it over. replace the CYLINDER ASSY IGNITION SWITCH LOCK and everything else. I have done it before it's not hard.

Yo I've got the same truck ('98 HDJ101) and went through the same thing. I have a friend in Japan so I was able to order OEM key from a Japanese dealer, and it worked right out of the box. They quoted me 11550 JPY for a plain key, 26730 JPY for a remote - I was told the car does have an immobilizer, idk.

I had to pull the driver door handle to get the lock code off the cylinder - 5-digit number. Pop the driver door panel off, undo a few screws behind the handle, and you'll be able to just pull the handle out enough to see the cylinder. For me the number was printed upside down.

If you give that and proof of ownership to a dealer, they can make you a new key. I imagine they can do a non-remote key at a US dealer.

Good luck

You may want to obscure the reflection of your lock number too :D

Good to know you can get a replacement key - super helpful! If you get the remote key, can you try to get instructions on how to program it so it can lock / unlock.
