Here is what I am thinking about doing. I have a 94 nonlocked :crybaby: LC but I want a diesel rig. I am located in Canada so Jap rigs are easily imported.

Option 1
Import jap rig with lockers and buy parts to convert to left hand drive. Then Sell my gasser.

Option 2
Import jap rig and swap the diesel engine, trans, lockers and all other nessessary parts to my 94 LC. Then part out the rest of the Jap rig.

I prefer option one and I think it would be more feasable. I do not have the skill to do the conversion right to left so in may be $$$.

Thoughts...

What's the problem with driving it as a RHD?

My wife has a house in haiti and we will likely export the Rig there. Unfortunately, RHD vehicles are not permitted there. Thus the conversion becomes nessessary.

Option 2.

Both options make sence but you have to take into consideration the vin numbers and the like for the eventual export.

Just my opinion with the export being a final goal.

I could be wrong but I thought Proffit's offered a RHD to LHD conversion. Maybe it was G&S, which would be a bonus because they are in BC. I vaguely remember somone offering it, and it being moo-ey expensive.

IMHO option 2 would likely be the least hassle and expense by a fairly wide margin but that isn't to say there won't be significant hassles and expense. Changing out steering columns, wiring, dash setups, linkages, seem to be fraught with many more challenges than "simply" changing power and fuel. Good luck ,Tony

Where are you located in Canada? There are a few LHD and diesel swap options in BC.

I am in Toronto.

Please provide some info on these conversion sources :grinpimp:

Anyone know If the firewall in the 80 series is stamped for both LHD And RHD?

swap parts

Why dont you just lift the body off of each one and put the left hand drive body on the right hand drive chassis then get whatever parts are needed as far as linkages and brackets to make steering and throttle and everything else that is affected work.

Thats a ridiculous suggestion. Suck it up and do the engine tranny swap.

Either way, you're going to $pend a fortune.

If you mu$t have a locked, LHD die$el 80, I'd $ell your$, buy a well-maintained LHD ga$$er with everything you want except the die$el, and fork over the buck$ to G&S to do a die$el $wap. Hell, maybe you can find a locked ga$$er with a toa$ted motor or BHG or $omething for a good price. Do you $ense a theme here? ;)

Maybe talk to Sheldon at G&S Cruiser Parts

Hi, Im new to the forum since i just got my LX.

My sugestion for you will be to buy an already Diesel, already LHD cruiser in the Dominican Republic and then just drive it across the border to Haiti.

I live here in Dr, and Diesel Cruisers where imported here by Toyota delaers direct from Japan with all the options.

You can come to the Philippines where JDM's are converted and just buy one from the importer. You can probably re-ship them to wherever they are allowed.
