After 9 f'ing years, I was told this morning that my job was being eliminated and essentially moving to Chile. They offered to keep me around until late June to help with the transition of my duties and then a severance and retention bonus. I'll refrain from saying what I really feel about the hatchet fawkers and all the layoff's that have occured in Finance. Needless to say, a global company is offshoring more jobs out of the US.

Anyone need a good experienced Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, etc.?

Sorry to hear the news, Brent......

On the plus side, I know there are always good opportunities for smart, hardworking individuals; I'm quite confident you'll be situated elsewhere quickly & looking back with a knowing smile.....

Bummer....
I'm sure you will land a new job and it will work out for the best.
And maybe you have time between jobs for extra golf and wheeling :D

Agreed.

Brent can you imagine what would happen if you got laid off by your club??? I mean, Camp Fires all the mudders have benefitted from would be severely resource impaired......OMG! Thank goodness this was only your job.....!! ;)

You want to commute to the other side of the orange curtain? :flipoff2;

Sorry to hear about the job. My wife's firm is expanding a bunch but they are in the SF valley.

:D I've done the commute from south OC to Thousand Oaks, 91 miles each way for a couple of years - no fun...and that was back in the 80's. I can't imagine what traffic would be like today. One goal - short commute.

I have to commute to Irvine a few times a month. Most days its 6 hours round trip. No joke. There are times I'd rather take a JetBlue flight from Burbank to John Wayne because I'm convinced I'd save time. :bang:

Sorry to hear your situation Brent. Have you checked into Irvine Co? They're into hotel/ resort, commercial lease, beside development and the accounting dept is almost 1/2 the company.

Peter

Brent, if I had an opening I would hire you in a second.

I will keep my ears open and let you know if I hear of anything in the underground accounting community. Hopefully in your neighborhood. :D

Good news is that accounting/finance jobs seem to be easier to get than just a year or two ago.

Thx Dan!
I'm looking for an Actuary here in Wyoming...
Not an actuary and Wyoming is a little further than I'd like to commute. ;)

Brent, if you don't mind driving to downtown LA, check out guess.com
way at the bottom, click on career, show all jobs, page 2, CFO Americas. If that's up your alley then I can turn in your resume.

Brent sorry to hear about this. I'll keep my ear to the ground.

Sorry to hear about your position Brent. Hopefully we can recruit you over to St. Joe's :)

Go home, start drinking. Watching Office Space and Fight Club, in that order.

Start Drinking - check...every night!
Office Space - been there done that.
Fight Club - huh? Remember, I'm old...never heard of it. :p

Sorry to hear Brent. My employer went through a "transformation" a few years back and I hear we are going through another one in Feb. Last time 300+ jobs were outsourced To Mumbai. That meant get rid of one highly skilled and well payed employee and hiring 3 outsourced contractors to replaced each terminated FTE. We are still feeling the pain.

They bring over outsourced workers onshore for 3 months and then they roll off due to "visa" issues. Project comes to a halt or starts over. We hire so many contractors from overseas but we aren't hiring and there are no job postings. Ok rant over.
