Sorry to hear Brent. My employer went through a "transformation" a few years back and I hear we are going through another one in Feb. Last time 300+ jobs were outsourced To Mumbai. That meant get rid of one highly skilled and well payed employee and hiring 3 outsourced contractors to replaced each terminated FTE. We are still feeling the pain.

They bring over outsourced workers onshore for 3 months and then they roll off due to "visa" issues. Project comes to a halt or starts over. We hire so many contractors from overseas but we aren't hiring and there are no job postings. Ok rant over.

Couldn't agree more. About a month ago our entire credit and collections team here, about 20 people were told they were being offshored to Costa Rica. This was a team that had just one Experian's Global Financial Flyer Award (internal recognition program for Finance for the entire world of Experian) last year. Way too many employees questioned that one! Best damn department in Finance in the world of Experian and they get offshored! At least I'm in good company. Sad part is that their Costa Rican replacements are here this week for training! Rubbing salt in a very open wound!!

I don't blame the people that are getting these outsourced jobs. Some are being exploited here though. For example, near our campus several apartment complex are now full of outsourced onshore consultants. Speaking to one recently I was surprised that he was only bringing home about $8.00 an hour. Sure the offshore company has an hourly bill rate of of $40.00 but the employee gets a portion of that then has room and board deducted. He was very happy that he was able to send money home.

all while the corporate management of the company get paid outlandish salaries and even more outlandish bonuses for increasing productivity and profit, not by increasing sales, but my reducing overhead and costs.

Personally I fear that most jobs that can be outsource will be in the near future. If I were to tell a young person one thing it would be to obtain a specific skill, one that you can get paid a fair wage for and one that can't be done "elsewhere" by a machine or another cheaper person.

Rant off.

Brent,

I feel your pain... The 1st week of Jan I too was let go after 13yrs with my company. Basically the same story as yours, "your position has been eliminated" feel free to interview for another position within the company.... But your employment is terminated. So essentially they could hire me back as a new employee without my pension, and benefits package that I had earned.

It is true as others have said before me, when one door closes several others open! You just have to be ready, and willing to walk through them. As luck might have it you boys might see me back in CA here soon! Might not be southern, seems several opportunities have come up in the SAC and SF area.

Best of luck Brent, I know we will both land on our feet once again!

Cheers,

Matt

Thanks Matt. Good luck with your own search my friend. No help internally here either, even tho there are a 'few' jobs. Not even a mention of any internal help.

At least I've got a job thru June with a severance and retention to stay...but the way I feel right now...Fxxx THEM.

Damn Brent, so sorry to hear my friend. You might take a look at Mission. We are one of the few who the health system that have had virtually no layoffs. I have to admit that I have no knowledge outside the clinical side but maybe.

Neighbor works there and all of accounting has relocated from Mission. Another board member is at corporate St. Joe's and has a few leads.

Little update - fawkers now can't get along w/o me for another 2/1/2 months because an acquisition integration has gone south on them because of upper management. They've come to me with an offer to extend my employement to late September. Said I wanted my initial retention bonus for staying until end of June as I've delayed my job search. They are ok with that and have agreed to it. They will not, however, guarantee my 9 week severance and 3 months payment of COBRA unless I stay until the new termination date. They have offered a pretty decent add'l amount to the retention bonus, but if I leave between end of June and September, no add'l retention (ok with that) but no severance either, which basically means for what time I work from July to September is basically for free if I leave earlier than the end of the extension. Same basic time frame - 9 weeks severance vs approx 10/11 weeks of add'l employement. Bird in the hand with the salary and benefits, but it's hard enough to drag myself out of bed every morning and bust my ass as work, which is all my personality will allow me to do, all for nothing. Still haven't made up my mind whether to accept the extension or not. Probably will as it's better to be looking while employeed vs not, even with a 'good story' of the position being offshored.

Really only cranked up search with recruiters about two weeks ago. One lead - resume being submitted this week to an Aliso Viejo company. I'd kill for that 15 minute commute! Waited to long to update resume to apply for a couple of nice positions at St. Josephs that The80sRock forwarded to me.

If I stay now until Sept. 19, I still get the severance. What irritates me is that I feel I've earned the serverance by being here at the end of June. They've pushed that carrot out so that if I now quit sometime during the extention period, I'm essentially screwed. If I dont' accept the extension, I get the original retention, severance and Cobra for 3 months at the end of June.

9 weeks of severance= some really good golf time.
hate hearing the news buddy, but with the last few years of hard work you put on your ticker, it might be just what you need to pack up the rig and head out for a "drive-about".

Still thinking about you Brent. If you see anything of interest on the ADP job board, don't forget to let me know!

Smitty

Thx for the reminder Smitty. Hadn't looked since we talked about it. Pretty much locked in until mid-Sept now.

Thx Dave, unfortunately, as we all know living in SoCal, retirement is not an option as expensive as it is. I'll contract or do temp work to keep income flowing until I find something permanent. Now that work has extended to Sept 18, recruiters don't want to search diligently until August timeframe as I've got a fairly decent retention package.

Hi Brent,
Look at Parker. Control Systems / Fuel Systems. You do your job and give give give they respect you. Irvine area. If you need a contact say the word. I have tripped over your advice hundreds of times on this forum and will vouch.

Best Regards,
Frank

Thanks Frank - will take a google.

Keep us posted on how that pans out Brent. Fingers crossed for you buddy.

Update - they extended me from Sept 18 to Oct 30 and that project has wound down to the point that I'm twiddling my thumbs. For this latest extension, no add'l retention bonus, but they did pay out what was owed to me - nice. They also, in lieu of any further retention, guaranteed my severance regardless of when I left. I'll take that.

Yesterday out of the blue the Finance Director of a small subsidiary over in Scottsdale calls my boss about me. I've known her and worked with her for about 9 years. She's moved from our Schaumburg, IL office to Scottsdale. The CEO and CFO (glorified Accounting Manager +) have resigned and she needs someone for a minimum of 3-6 months working over in Scottsdale for at least 2 weeks a month with remainder of the work done here locally! Everything's working out to stay employed here! Who knows, if it all works out it may be a permanent position. If so, the :princess:and home would remain here and I'd find a cheap place to live there and just come home occasionally. Golf mecca! We'll see how it works out!!!
