Issue with braking.

When I am coming to a stop, I press the brake pedal down and it is firm; however, when I am about stopped, the brake pedal looses its firmness and I feel the pedal vibrate. What could this be? My rig idles rough as well...could they be related? Vacuum leak?

Mine does the same thing. Seems to me like the ABS kicks in as I am about stopped. I'm guessing a bad ABS sensor

Pull the ABS fuse (under the hood). The light will turn on meaning ABS disabled. Then test breaking and see if the problem still is there.

Is the pushing if the CDL an instant disable of the ABS?
Reason for asking is when I had my ABS hooked up, the ABS would kick in from time to time and freak me out. It sucks to think you are going to stop but the ABS say no you are not
If the CDL switch was instantaneous then one could push the CDL and avert the ABS from pulsating and keep you from rear-ending the car in-front of you. That is if you can think fast and react faster and still have time to stop. I think grabbing the parking brake might be faster though. I think I will just leave the fuse out.

I was just thinking about trying to fix the ABS and rigging up a way to disable the ABS in an instance. Never even thought of using the CDL.

Having issues myself. I've got the firm brake pedal, basically have to stand on it to get the rig to stop, however no loosening as I come to a stop. It's basically hard as a rock from cranking to stopping. Any ideas? I've heard master cylinder and power brake booster...

I just shortened the master cylinder vacuum hose and added new hose clamps to it.
The original hose has got dry hardened. Sure at some time that hardened hose will start to cause a vacuum leak. A new hose is on my wish list.

when this happened on our 80, we replaced the master brake cylinder

proper bleeding of the system afterwards is important
