What exactly is wrong with it? have you removed it and taken it apart yet? I have couple of fine spline input h55's for parts in the pile. A good tranny guy and a rebuild kit and maybe a few pieces could maybe get you back together? Or you could buy a brand new one from toyota.

I'm taking it apart today to see how bad the damage is. Outside inspection shows throw out bearing is toast, input shaft is not seated center which leads me to believe the pilot bearing is also toast.

I'll have a better idea later this afternoon.

Looks like Japan still has 'em; but certainly not cheap! Rebuild might be the best option, as these are so sought after and folks that have spares usually aren't willing to let them go. Or look around for a rusted out cheap HJ60 to yank one from? Good luck with this; what a drag.

Call cruiser outfitters in Utah. They have them in stock.

When I bought my 61, there were receipts from around 2005 for a tranny rebuild. Parts totalled up to $3500-4k or something. New input shaft, bearings etc. Something must've let go.

I have the receipt still just to gaze at in awe once in a while. I'll see if I can find it.

At the time the cost of parts was more than the price of a new one I think. Not anymore probably.

I think these old 12hts are hard on transmissions.

Ya it's about 5 to 6g for a a new one. 4500 with parts and rebuild.

I had two of my h55f’s fully rebuilt with all parts needed just a couple years ago for less than 2000$ I did the removal and install though, that was bullfrog transmission.

Included all new parts needed full synchros, input shaft for 3b, bearings and seals and on one a new counter shaft.

(I might have a brand new input shaft for a 3b around for 500$)

That's not horrible, the 3b input shaft won't work for mine unfortunately

.!?!? Try about $2500 US from Cruiser outfitters or Valley Hybrids

Shipping probably makes up the rest. It's brutal from those guys lately.

There's no universe where it should cost less to send a 10 lb lump all the way from australia than it does from utah.

Would a tranny be too heavy for seawings ?

In a normal year, I'd say bribe some hippy ex cruiser owner with a boat to go to bellingham, but these days I dunno.

Buy the broken part and fix it.. re bearing the unit maybe new synchros and away you go.

Not hard to rebuild, just need to make some pullers instead of spending hundreds of dollars on tools.
