100 Series Cranking on its own - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/100-series-cranking-on-its-own.1300561/

My Daughter got home from college and parked in the driveway. The alarm went off and I went outside and the truck was cranking on its own intermittently. Appeared to have drained the battery and was setting off the alarm.

Charged the battery after disconnecting the positive terminal. If I plug in the starter relay on the fuse block it cranks on its own, if the ignition is on or off. I am getting 10 volts to the trigger leg of the starter relay and if I power up the starter leg with a wire it cranks and starts. After its started by jumping the relay it runs fine but if I shift into drive the truck dies. If I shift quickly from reverse to drive with my foot on the gas it goes into drive. Lots of lights on the dash, so I am suspecting it is some weird electrical issue. After a reset it is only showing the AT temp light but I checked fluid and it shows no signs of being hot, bright red and clean.

D on the cluster has been out since we owned the truck but I always assumed bulb since the others work.

Above this is someone elses story similar to mine.... Below is my current situation.

Had the same cranking on its own issue in 2021 as the above thread and I replaced starter relay with OEM toyota part. It did it again today and I replaced relay with Autozone part and it kept cranking. Could be defective or could be other issue. Would love a recommendation to get it taken to tomorrow to be repaired and possibly do some maintenance.

Thanks!

So a new relay , battery, and alternator later back in business.

I think alternator may have contributed to the failure.

Red McCombes Toyota had an OEM unit in stock and we replaced it and good to go.

I highly recommend Falcon Tire and Auto in San Antonio. Great reasonable folks who know Toyota.

So a week later it did the same thing after a 300 mile drive with a new OEM starter relay and alternator. Checked wiring and grounds and all good. Replacing ignition switch with OEM part to see if it fixes the issue. Any experience with key switch going bad?

She pulled into driveway and turned it off and it kept cranking with key off, no dash lights on. Pulled relay and it stopped. Replacing relay and ignition switch now.
