Is this worth $4,000?

So the time of my 100-series purchase is imminent, rolling the 80 to dog truck status and thanking the 4Runner for 11 good years in that role.

I think I have my choice narrowed down to one of two 2004 LX470s - one with ~146K miles and one with ~66K (!). Asking price for the higher mile truck is $21K; for the low mileage truck they want $25K.

So my question for the assembled brain trust is, if all other things are equal which would you go with? Is 80K fewer ticks on the odometer worth $4K or am I just being suckered in by the thought of tiny miles on a 10 year old truck?

Only other possibly relevant piece of information is that the low mileage truck is in WI and the other is in TN. Either will need to be shipped to me in TX.

I would say 80,000 less is worth the $4k, but I might be concerned with rust in WI. I would hope at 146k, the 90k service would have been completed, but I just saw one near that and it had not been done yet...

All things being equal - big assumption btw - the one with 66k miles.

Make sure you check maintenance records, etc. and see if you can get detailed pics and/or have someone look at them for you in the area.

66k and 10 years in the rust belt is long enough to start the rust process. Get some pictures of the obvious problem areas. If they were both in TN or TX i would think the lower miles would be worth it.

And some anecdotal information regarding the rust....

I have a 2007 335i that I purchased from Long island and drove to tx with 63k miles on it 2 years ago. I have had to replace the Lower control arms from worn bushings and the bolts had already rusted, i wound up having to cut them off. Same goes from my rear toe arm eccentric bolts. Its body is fine.

Personally I think both are high. Keep searching and don't settle.

Find a TX truck. Less rust.....or none at all !!

Or consider a SoCal truck. 0 rust and a high probability of having been soccer mom owned.

What about the 2003 listed here with 99k asking 19000? Looks like a clean landcruiser. Black in color. GLW your search.
