Is this going to be totaled?

Oh man, that's frustrating. I get the math, but frustrating nonetheless. What are your rights as a consumer about having it fixed? If you were to just drop it off at a body shop and told them to get to work on it would that increase your leverage with the insurance co? I understand that you'd be on the hook for the cost until you got it back from the insurance but at least it would force the hand of not going down the path of being totaled/salvaged.

I'd like to thank 12guns for all the info. and willingness to help a guy out....that's why I love mud.

hope the OP is in a fixed cruiser soon.

Sorry about the accident. Question. How did you get the front tundra center caps on? Do you have spacers up front?

Yes I cut the holes for the center caps. I know it looks rigged but I was about to put MTs on my factory 16s but happened upon these pull offs on Craigslist. They had less than 200 miles and I got them with the lug nuts and center caps for $400. I figured I could run these around town and wheel the others.

So if they total it, should I buy it and have the frame checked and straightened or is there an easy way to tell if it is bent. I am most worried about the front cross member. The radiator and condenser took most of the hit and is shoved back quite a bit. If it is straight I figure a Slee or ARB front bumper would not be much more than the stock replacement parts and would not need to be painted.

Everything from the frame horns (~8" bolted tips with crumple zones pre-stamped) on is designed to bend/crumple. None of it is structural.

But it all has to be straight to locate all of the stuff like the radiator and grill. Isn't the crossmember welded to the frame horn ends?

Like I said, nothing is structural. Everything is easily replaced ahead of the frame horns. Frame horns are purposely made to be replaced.

Sry about the accident
If this was my LC I wished they would salvage it , I don’t like the idea of driving a truck that has been in accident. Insurance companies usually pay for the market value , I rolled my EVO and they paid me the KBB value of the car, :D
Wish u the best

As long as they give you a fair price, I would buy it back. You'll have plenty of cash to fix it up and money left for lift/armor. I don't like driving vehicles after an accident either, but that is really nothing.

It is going to cost you more to fix it then you anticipated. Mine was worse but there are losts of small parts in there. Its the little things that drive the cost up and drive you nuts. Emblems, trim, washer fluid bottle and nozzles, nuts, bolts, etc. I have about 6000 in fixing mine. Make sure to have your mechanic keep everything until they are done to keep costs down.

It is now parked after 3 months of driving as the trans light just came on last night and did not have a chance to check it out. Starting to wonder if it will ever end and if its time to sell.

I replaced everything from the fan forward. Only to have the rod from the water pump that holds the fan break which caused me to replace the radiator, radiator shroud, fan blade etc again. :bang::bang:

If you are expecting to get used parts from Cuiserparts.net expect to get lots of 80 parts (radiator, skids) and have to return them.

Yeah yours is a completely different situation, there is obvious frame damage. If I thought mine was completely bolt on meaning no welded front cross member problems, I would have it towed home and do it myself. Try to save the fender, replace all parts, paint the new hood black, bolt on an ARB bumper,l drive it to the AC shop and get the air charged. My problem is that front cross member. Stripping all the damaged parts and then having it towed to a frame shop then back to me to finish the work makes it not worth it.

$13,572 is what they want to give me. They say the repair would be $8,800. They are going to quote me a salvage value but they do see frame damage.

It's crazy how the salvage bid can be so high on Toyota's and some other vehicles. Wierd thing is, if a person buys your Cruiser to rebuild, they will HAVE to cut corners to be able to make a profit at all. Bad deal.
The good news is it sounds like their offer is very reasonable. I'll have to look back and see if you told us how much you gave, but with 13500 you can find a nice, clean 2k LC. May take a few weeks, but one will turn up.
Let me know if you find one in my area and I'll give it a thorough inspection for you.

It is a reasonable offer so I didn't argue with the adjuster that much. I tried to make the argument that if there was $8000 worth of damage and the salvage value was $7700, shouldn't I be getting $15700. She started trying to explain that she couldn't do that and that is not how it works. I said that I had to try.

Yeah, I think you came out great, even though the whole process is still a hassle that nobody wants to go through.
And for what it's worth, he's right, once an estimate reaches the total loss point, you might as well throw it out the window. All that matters is the value of the vehicle and the salvage value.
I assume that was your insurance company that handled this as we discussed (to then subrogate the at fault guy's insurance for others reading)?

I just want to say that I think it's bull**** that they didn't want you taking photos of the explorer. What the **** was the logic for that?

Sorry your truck got wrecked.

People are wierd when it comes to accidents. Especially when they know they are at fault. Alot of people won't even file the claim like they are supposed to in hopes that it will just "go away"...
I am amazed how many people look at car accidents as a chance to profit, and will try to claim they are not at fault so they can claim injury and milk it for all it's worth.
People can be shady and they probably didnt' want pics taken so they can either make more damage to get more money from their own insurance (won't matter if it's already totaled), or claim the impact was in another area of the vehicle, which could indicate a different set of curcumstances in their desperate attempt to say they are not at fault.
To the OP, don't worry, that doesn't happen often and the police report will be crystal clear. Not to mention that you DO have a picture of their vehicle in case it were to be needed.
Sorry to ramble so much, 8 years of claims makes my mind think like that all the time and I'm not sure that's a good thing!

Well the wife and I talked and we decided that if I cant find another LC or LX for close to the total amount then I will take her 2006 4WD 4Runner and we will get her a used crossover SUV. Her 4runner only has 59,000 miles so I am pretty happy either way. She is liking the Lexus RX models and it looks like we could probably get a 330. Whats everyone's opinion of those? How much life is in them before they start to crap out? My wife only drives 6000-8000 miles a year so high miles within reason is ok. I also will have some LC parts for sale including a set of stock 2000 wheels with old tires if anyone is interested.

Its a Lexus so its got to be a solid ride just dont let your friends see you driving it....

I need the back of the center console, cup holder and part that it slides into if you can help?
