Took apart a 1993 land cruiser instrument panel and right above the aftermarket stereo there was a small auxiliary desktop computer type fan that would power on with the ignition on ... Pretty sure it's aftermarket along with the stereo just looks stock almost (clean install).. Wanted to confirm before I start yanking s*** out...here is a pic

Is your stereo stock? Can you hear it with ignition On? ' Cause I sure can -I think it's Causing my clock /timer to make that annoying beeping sound

I have an aftermarket stereo, but it came with it. Yeah, I can hear the fan slightly on mine.

I just looked thru most of FSM and I can't find any fan in that location

Well SOB, I have a 1993 cruiser and I have never heard a fan noise coming from this location....

Pretty sure this is not stock..... On top of fan there is a model number and description with the name Panaflo dc brushless on it?

My 97 has a fan and I believe it to be stock.

I can hear what sounds like a computer fan running when I sit in the Cruiser at a stop light when the radio is off. It turns on and off with the ignition.

Ditto, I have a '96 and hear a fan, I haven't been in there but still stock radio and all as far as I know.

my cruiser also has it.. It looked like an OEM install to me so I left it there when I installed my new HU.
I don't think it's needed for the more modern HU's out there.. But It can't hurt to cool the amp heatsink on the back of any HU you install?

I have been hearing what sounds like a fan with ignition switched on as well but never investigated. This would explain the sound. Thanks for posting the question.

I can barely hear myself think in my 93 let alone a quiet little fan. You guys have supersonic hearing or something!

haha.. stick your ear by the clock/timer with ign on the start, you'll hear it...

My '93 does not have any fan there?

Man O man, you sure have to agree that Mr T way over built these trucks, a cooling fan for the radio, who would have though. I do have to say, looking at the photos you posted with the wiring harness looking like it was all spliced into. I would have though that, that fan was an aftermarket item.
