I just picked this cruiser up for three hundred bucks. I has some device attached to the rear of the three speed transfer case. the shifter that goes to it in the upper right hand corner says "overdrive, In, Out"

George Laird "Roversdownsouth" in New Orleans bought the rights to the "Fairey" overdrive and has been producing them for the vintage Land Rovers for years. Even though he does not produce one for the Land Cruiser he may have both information and limited parts for your unit. Hope that helps.........1978HJ45

Funny - I just pulled up the Rovers Down South phone number last night. I call this guy every once in a while to see if he'll start producing the Cruiser specific versions. The Rover models sell for approx. $1500 so it seems like a cheaper route to go than an H55 - plus you get another shifter to confuse your friends with. I ran a Fairey for years without any problems but then I'm not hardcore with my LC.

Rovers Down South Fairey Overdrive

Mark's 4wd Adapters in Australia sold an LC overdrive until recently. Never heard anything good or bad about them. It was a bit pricey.

Had a Fairey Overdrive in my 67 109, was wonderful!!! No experience since George took over..in fact I'm glad to see that George is still in business.

I ran one of George's new units in my 1967 Series 2A Rover and it worked perfectly. He also rebuilt an older Fairey O/D in my son's Series III and we had equally good results with that unit. If you can get past George's "BS" he is a heck of a nice guy.
Take care.......1978HJ78
