Is this an F or 2F motor?

Sliprock, did you get D,animals' note? Sounds like you can swap that crappy steel for an aluminum valve cover. I like mine because it uses the rubber gasket. you will need to yank that sucker a couple times to get your valves set and all. I like my alum. because the rubber gasket is easier to deal with. Goop some blue silicone up in the notch. That way gasket stays in place when removing/installing. I hear you can get an old Clifford 4 barrel for it. Popon a 2 barrel. Don't think they make them anymore. think twice about going with headers. Lose some things there like over the frame plumbing. Fs a famous for frying valves, stock exhaust is supposed to help that. Don't go to big with exhaust. Same issue, burns valves. Lots of folks stick with the stock carb. I went weber 32/36 still undecided on that.

You have to get one from a FJ40 vintage 2F. The FJ60 2F's have a shorter cover on them and they will not fit over the rocker arm studs or something in there in the older rigs.

Slick, I would get a big cap fully electronic diz along with the coil and ignitor from an FJ60. You'll also need the "dented" side cover from the same vehicle.
You will most likely need to reroute the PCV hose, but that's NBD.

GL

That is a good motor.

This is the first on the list.

I am going to stick with my origional Toyota carb. I actually like my headers. The only thing I would add would be the water heat riser.

I would love t slap a 4 speed behind it ut I have a brand new clutch for a 3 speed. I cannot see waisting money.

Thought I'd revive this thread....how did the build go on this F.5? I just took my head off my 74' to redo it (and replace the blown head gasket) and wanted to see how it all worked out for ya and what goodies you got?
