My Toyota had carpet in it when I bought it. I just tore it out to install Lizardskin and bedliner. The fuel tank is leaky, so I took it to a repair shop and they gave me an astronomical quote to repair it. Do you folks think this is a 1965 fuel tank? If not, what year tank do you think this is?

@65swb45 cautioned me against doing a sealant treatment years ago, so I am not sure what to do here. He said it is possible to install a later fuel tank with some massaging. If this is a later unit, than I am pretty sure I can get a replacement right back in the way it was.

Looking for advice re: repair/replace.

Thank you!

The bottom looks like what I remember my 72 tank looked like. In like 84-85 my tank developed a seep in a seam. I did the alcohol proof fuel tank liner from JC Whitney. I was amazed how clean the inside of the tank was at +12yo. Anyway the tank is still there and still leak free. Back in the day my dad welded up lots of gas tanks. I do recall there was one that wrapped around the rafer in the hanger - I'll bet he paid a lot more attention to the inerting process after that.

My Datsun B210 aux tank needs help, I might do the liner job or weld up a new tank that better fits the space behind the rear axle plus hold more fuel and have some extra protection.

Butt-welded clamshell, vs standing seam common to the newer tanks.
