Is the LC worthy as an off-road toy?

I’m well aware of the draw of a landcruiser and I want one, the build quality plus the heritage has proven itself. But, is it really good for an off-road toy? The kind of off-roading I’m talking about is nothing like king of the hammers but any trail I want to go, mudding, steep climbs just to name a few, if I want to drive there I want to be confident in my rig. I have a tundra and plan to use that as my tow rig, stock the tundra has 10+ inches of ground clearance, LC is 8.9. Anything is possible but to get a LC off-road worthy seems like I would have to get expensive front and rear bumpers, bigger tires to add more ground clearance and add lockers(is crawl control even a worthy replacement?), then I have to regear for the mass of bigger tires which would cost way more than a 4Runner or fj cruiser that comes stock with a locking rear diff and almost 10 inches of ground clearance. The LC doesn’t have good approach and departure angles. The other down side of the LC is it’s size, too wide and long. Let’s be honest here, what’s your input?

Getting bored sheltering in place are we

I guess you could get an 80. Easier to toy out, and solid axles. Do you imagine this?

or this?

A jeep JK wheelbase is 20" shorter.
Actually the wheel base for a 4-door Jeep is 6” longer.... they don’t have a nose or ass though.

Ignore these photos too... The Lc is a pavement-only vehicle... :hillbilly:

These are strictly for mall cruising only.

just looks like the typical FS roads... hahahaha
Was waiting for @Markuson and others to see this thread and bite.

@684cruiser you mention using the Tundra as a tow rig... do you plan on towing a 200 series to the trails? If so why not get an 80 series or something else and have an epic build where it is worth towing and hitting crazy trails. Otherwise the 200 has no problem on what you have stated, except for maybe muddin... might be a bit too heavy.

With that budget (200series) I would have a 40 as my playtoy and use the Tundra as the tow vehicle. A good 40 and a nice toy hauler trailer = late 200 series.

Great photos :)

Ha! I think most of those were taken by YOU. :) To others... (@indycole ) and I have done a *LOT* of trails together...and if it weren’t for him, most of my actualdriving images would not exist. Great to have trail buddies!

@Markuson ive seen your rig in a lot of threads I’ve read and I like it, I respect where you’re coming from, but can you take a stock LC through there? I’m sure it could with damage to bumpers. The other thing is, how much did that build cost?
